I know i shouldn't do this but im thinking of replacing HD-DVR even though there is nothing wrong with it in hopes of getting newer receiver or maybe the same refurbished model but does anybody had any luck with a new receiver replacement preferably from a HR22-100 model to a HR24?

Only way to guarantee a 24 is to get one from a reseller (with two year) for $200, or get a truly owned one. Directv could send you a HR21, 23 etc. only way to know what they send you is to order a home media server and get an HR34.

I know you can buy a leased receiver from retailer. but does replacing DVR with PP (defective or not) gets you the same model or older or can they send you a new HR24 without upgrading with a 2 year agreement? i know is a longshot but want to know if anybody had success in doing that.

If you replace a DVR through DirecTV, you get whatever is next on the shelf. No way to guarantee a specific model. It's simply the way their system works. All HD DVRs are considered "functionally equivalent".

Replacing a defective DVR does not reset the two lease agreement.

D* considers them equivalent. I can't believe that anybody that owns a 21 series HR considers them equivalent to a 24.

Replacing a defective DVR does not reset the two lease agreement.
Read the thread titled "HR21-200 Issues" and explain that statement, please. Obviously, D* will go to any length to extend a commitment.

Nothing to explain, really. It is what it is. We may not consider and HR21 "equivalent" to and HR24, but DirecTV's system does. And replacements of defective equipment should NOT trigger any changes to lease commitments. That's not to say that CSRs don't make mistakes sometimes.

From my experience, 2 replaced boxes in 3 months time, it appears that they are now replacing units with the same model. I've had to replace 2 HR21's, a -100 and a -200, and got exact replacements right down to the -100 and -200 part.

This may be some huge coincidence but this is what I've seen recently.

I did the same thing in December and received a dented/scratched older model through FedEx. I took pictures and sent a not so nice e-mail to customer service.

When they replied I sent them the pictures. Talked to a nice lady and she ended up putting on the work order "HR24".

Helps to ask for an installer to come out and install instead of sending it to you via mail. She agreed to waive the install fee. Dude hooked up a new in box HR24-200 in less than 10 minutes.

This ...

I was told by an installer that the only HDDVR that Dallas area installers carry on their trucks are HR-24s. Schedule the replacement with an installer and you likely get an HR-24
