•Receiver: HR20-100
•Channel(s) affected: CBS - WTVF (5)
•Date: 8/28/08
•Time: 7-8 pm CDT
•Description of Issue: BB10 picture freezes and breaks up when the picture shows the double camera view screen with the moving blue background; the picture only does this when CBS shows this camera view, otherwise the picture is good. It's been happening for some time now on this show.

Why does this happen? And how can it be fixed? Its only happening on WTVF as far as I know.
It must be either WTVF's feed of the show or how D* is re-transmitting it; at least I know now that it is not just me seeing it.
Receiver : HR20-700
Channel : CBS WTVF (5)
Date : 9/16/08
Time : 11 - 11:30 AM CT
Description of Issues : Tried to view "Talk of the Town".Noticed alot of picture freezing and blocking artifacts. This went on for approx. half of the running time of the program. This program is a live local show that broadcasts every weekday from 11 - 11:30 AM CT at the WTVF studio in Nashville. If I knew which sat to check for our local channels,I would check the signal strengths at this time.
I sent Diagnostics Key 20080916-2583 in to DirecTV while this was going on.
EDIT : At 11:24 AM CT,the PQ was unwatchable,to say the least. So much picture freeze and blocking on the screen that the screen went completely green for a few seconds, before coming back on to the same picture freeze and blocking.
7:54 PM CT. 10/11/08

WTVF(CBS) Channel 5 Audio Problems during Florida LSU game, sounds like its doubling or a ringing noise.
10/21/08 7:16 PM Central Time.

WKRN ABC 2

Looks like it just "bit the dust".

Getting the "No Need to call us" Message.
Receiver: HR21-700
Channel(s) Affected: WTVF CBS 5
Date: 10/22/08
Time: ~9:54 p.m.
Description of Issue: Audio "Brrrip!" sound (sometimes aka "Woody Woodpecker" sound). Two short instances within 1 minute of each other, each followed by a split-second audio dropout. NOT accompanied by any visual artifacts or distortion.
WKRN-2 tonight throughout the CMA awards broadcast having terrible audio/video stutter. Not seeing it on the Comcast HD broadcast.
Anyone in Nashville notice no HD on CBS [Ch. 5]?

I hope this is fixed before the Titans game....
Receiver: HR21-700
Channel(s) Affected: WTVF CBS 5
Date: 12/4/08
Time: ~7:20 p.m.
Description of Issue: Audio dropout of a second or so duration, not accompanied by any visual artifacts or distortion during tonight's Survivor.

EDITED TO ADD: Happened again, same receiver, same date & channel, this time at around 8:44 p.m. during CSI:, and accompanied by the now-imfamous "Brrrrip!" sound. *sigh* I was really hoping they'd licked this issue here over the last few weeks.
Receiver: HR21-700
Channel(s) Affected: WTVF CBS 5
Date: 12/6/08
Time: ~3:32 p.m.
Description of Issue: Audio dropout of a second or so duration followed by a split-second "Brrrip!" audio distortion, not accompanied by any visual artifacts or distortion during the CBS Sports broadcast of the SEC Championship Game.
LameLefty, don't know if this helps you or not but I've had communications with the chief engineer of our local CBS station and starting a few weeks ago he's had nothing but problems with the audio on the CBS network feed. He finally got to the point to locking the network receive hardware into DD5.1 all the time to stop the problems (which means that now DD2.0 audio have voices coming from all speakers, very distracting). Last time I talked to him he was still trying to get the network to figure out what's wrong with the feed.

The video has been "glitching" at times too, don't know if that was a problem on the network side or WTVF's side picking up the satellite feed, my signal levels are fine, it looked like a "hard" error.

I just noticed another "hard" error during the two and half men commercial, I am watching the game online and it is not happening on the web feed.

I wasn't watching very closely after around the middle of the third quarter but during the time I was watching I did not see any visual artifacting or glitches. However, after the game was over my wife and I were watching a CSI: NY repeat recorded a few days ago (I think it was one of the ones they show on weekends to fill time after sporting events) and noticed another "Brrrip!" - I don't remember exactly when it was recorded and my wife is watching a DVD right now so I can't check.

The only signal strength you need to watch for currently in the Nashville market for local HD channels is 99(s) transponder 17, which is carrying our Big Four HD locals. Transponder 18 is carrying four more test feeds as placeholders for channels 8 (PBS), 30 (MyNetwork TV) and 58 (CW), along with channel 22 (PBS out of Cookeville). When those will go live and show up in our Guides as HD channels is up in the air however.

Anyway, if your signals are good on 17 and 18 (and they are) it's not a signal strength issue. As you can see reading up the list of Nashville issues, almost all of them involve WTVF, the CBS affiliate.
Just heard the MPEG4 audio "Brrrriiip!" issue again for the first time in about a week on WTVF channel 5 here in Nashville during the Titans-Steelers game at 12:41 p.m. CST. A second instance occurred at 12:53 p.m.

Query to those in the know (e.g., Doug): should I still be reporting these as issues?
Channel 5 WTVF HD signal went out during the storms tonight, just showing the slide now.
WZTV Channel 17

When I turned on the TV at around 4:50 p.m. CST and continuing, there are fairly bad MPEG4 audio "Brrrriips" going on, at least once a minute but often several times within a few seconds of each other Some glitches are worse than others, mere stutters, but others are almost as bad as they get. Duration is generally short, under a second. These are NOT accompanied by visual artifacts or distortion.
