Channel 4 is all jittery this morning. It is fine OTA though. When I first turned on an H20 receiver, I was getting the multi-switch error. I never saw that before. I reset but it said the same thing.

Then I changed channels and the others seemed ok but going back to 4 yielded the jittery video and choppy, at times audio as well. I went to check it on an HR20and I saw the same jittery video and choppy audio.
Yes, I saw this. WNBC-4 HD NY has issues... jumpy/jittery video.
I'm seeing the same thing with Channel 4 WNBC.

  1. Jittery-almost a strobe light effect. There are times the video freezes then catches up. The news crawl on the bottom is very jittery as well.
  2. Audio and Video is out of sync even when video doesn't seem jittery.

Same here. Everything else looks good. /steve
Thanks for the feedback guys. I was getting close to calling in after seeing that "multi-switch error" on the H20. It's funny how the problem also spoofed the HR20-700 as I just saw into a "Call Extension 721 error: You are not subscribed to this channel". Changing channels and going back to 4 brought back the choppy feed.

Hopefully they can get this resolved soon.
On Tuesday and Wednesday mornings (Sep 30 and Oct 1) Craig Ferguson's Late Late Show has not appeared on any of the NYC local CBS channels (2, 80). Letterman ends and then the screen goes black. On the Sep 30 show DTV eventually put up a screen saying "We're aware of the problem....." but it happened again the next nite. Every other channel works fine, and there is no 771 or other errors.

This has been happening on my HD DVR, so I'm not sure if it also occurs on the standard def boxes. Has anyone else seen this problem?
Sorry David, I don't watch that show so I don't know if it's been happening.

As for the NBC issue, I wonder if the HD Locals moving to different SATs as per this thread: http://www.dbstalk.com/showthread.php?t=140821&page=3 are at the root of this problem.
Just took a quick peek and NBC seems to be fine now. No noticeable jitter. /steve
FYI: 80, 82, 86 and 88 distants still work on my Hughes E86.

I can confirm that my HR21's recordings of Conan at 12:35 lately have been odd...at EXACTLY the 1am mark....they go black. In weeks past, the "card" would come up (as you said) mentioning "We're aware of the problem...". But so far this week it just goes black. And, on Tues at 3:05 the Conan re-run had a black screen for 55 minutes...but this AM's 3:05 re-run didn't even record. In the To Do List, it was one of those undescriptive canceled messages (13)...I think.

I don't have an AM21 on this HR21 that I record Conan/Leno on...but I do know that when I went to my other HR21 this AM and tuned to one of my locals it had a 721 message...but then I changed the channel and came back and the message went away (this was around 6am EST time).
yes this has been happening to me with all my NYC locals for the past two months after 1 am screens just black, the month before there was a directv screen that said we are aware of the problem and there is no need to call? How come there is no information about this on DBSTALK's homepage? This is an inconveniece since i do not have OTA for Conan, a little heads up on when this was planned and for how long and why would have been nice

IMHO this just goes to show that informing the OTA viewing public (which I know you don't have since the MPEG4 channel is what you're looking for--BUT IIRC D* gets their HD feed via the OTA signal) is a "joke" for WNBC out of NYC---you'd THINK there would be SOME sort of message on their website...stating, "We're going to be performing maintenance on the combiner over the next few weeks so the 40-50 of you who watch our OTA HD channel will be affected"...or something like that! Nay nay...

Those of us who view HD OTA are so miniscule right now...that it doesn't matter to them that they felt compelled to even put the word out that they've been working on the antennas. I just wonder how much of this will change come 2/2009. WNBC out of NYC doesn't even tell viewers they can get their local weather on the 4-2 subchannel via an OTA antenna---they direct you to the cable channel in your area where this feed is available! I think they also have a 4-3 subchannel (which further crapitizes their HD signal)...but, you'd never know this from ANY of what they put in the crawl across the bottom of the screen during the various newscasts.

But since this thread is about the HD Locals on D* I'll leave that OTA discussion for the AVS Forums thread that touches on all those issues....:D

Exactly the same here.

I only checked WCBS (2) and WNBC (4) before going to bed at 1am. They were both dark, no signal at all at 1am ET.
First, a lot of work has been going on atop the Empire State Building. The new Combiner, as with the old one, is the antenna that transmits digital -
2,4, 7, 9, 11 and 13.

Also, I have noticed that when O-T-A transmission has been suspended, Direct also loses it signal on many of the channels. This leads me to believe that Direct is using antennas to pickup signals - not hardwired fiber as I had thought.

Thanks... but it would be nice to get some sort of explanation from DirecTV; since it's affecting a lot of NY'ers. I mean, 1 am isnt very late at night and there are a lot of recordings that are being affected.
Saturday night at 1:00 AM.....channel 2/80 CBSHD, 4/82 NBCHD and channel 11 WPIX HD all went out AGAIN....with experiencing technical difficulties card up. Channel 2,4 and 11 have the gray message that they know about the problem and will fix...channel 80 and 82 have the white and blue DirecTV logo card saying there are technical difficulties.

This is getting old.
