This imho is absolutely past the point of being ridiculous and unacceptable!

come out and state wtf is going on?!!! I can take a couple hours of an issue like this but over 24hrs spanning over 2 days now and still going!!!....let us know wtf is the issue and give us a rough time table for when we can expect it fixed or why we can't be given one...

In times its looking like it will take a long time, how about giving those effected access to the ABCE/ABCW and other local channels(389-399)?....oh but b/c the SD channel still works fine ppl should be all good(this is the reasoning I was given for not unlocking the others btw)????? NO! I pay for the HD leader and service...if HD is out for over 24hrs they should unlock the other HD affiliate ie ABCeHD/ABCwHD/CBSeHD/CBSwHD...and so on

I'm not one to get mad much and love DIRECTV but the handling of this situation here is just unacceptable...
Same here. Not happy at all. Glad there were no network shows I needed to record. But watching network TV today in SD is painful.

I just love the splash screen that has been on for 2 days that says "NO NEED TO CALL US". :bonk1::bang
HD locals back on in Philly market for about hour and a half.
ive gotten big blurps and pixelation at times on other HD channels past 2 days here too like ESPNHD and now as im watching HotPass 798, getting them too...thinking this might actually be associated to something fairly big here...would be nice to just send out a notice still though...("hey X broke and we are fixing it and until its fixed service might fluctuate some on certain channels...sorry for the inconvience...we expect to have it solved by X hopefully")
Ral/Durham HD locals back on also

The RDU locals were only out for about 23 hours (from about 4:00 pm until 3:00 pM the next day.

DirecTV could not unlock the distant networks for you even if the local SD and HD were out permanently unless you live beyond the grade B contour map for the local stations or you had a waiver (and the RDU locals do not hand out waivers - I have tried to get a waiver from WRAL for years with no luck). It is the networks and copyright law that prevents DirecTV from unlocking distant networks. DirecTV cannot give you access to any network affiliate other than the RDU affiliates if you live in the RDU DMA. Their hands are tied.

If you live in Raleigh, you should be able to get the local channels OTA, so the only thing you would have lost is the ability to record something in HD for the 23 hours that the HD channels were not on DirecTV.

If the local stations were off completely, as happened during the ice storm of 1989 when one of the main towers in Garner collapsed, the stations might grant a blanket temporary waiver, but even then, I doubt it. In 1989 there were no local stations available via DirecTV, and the network that was lost relocated to channel 40 within a day and stayed there until the tower was replaced.

In 1989, there was nothing available via DirecTV! :D

I have a North Carolina TV Guide from the summer of 1990 that has the disclaimer on every other page "Because of Ch. 5's damaged tower, Ch. 40 is still broadcasting WRAL's programs." So I guess it took them a while to get the tower fixed -- long enough, at least, that TV Guide thought it merited the word "still."
Gboro was out for part of the day. Don't really know how long as I watching other channels.

Here are some photos of the collapsed tower. The tower collapsed in December of 1989. WRAL was back on the air on Channel 40 (as WKFT) within 3 hours, but the new tower was not completed until October of 1990. During that time, the entire WRAL schedule was broadcast on Channel 40 by WKFT. In October of 1990, WRAL returned to Channel 5 and WKFT went back to its independant programming until it was bought by Univision and became WUCV in 2003.
