WTAE Channel 4 (ABC)

No sound for the last several hours. Other locals are fine. Picture is HD for Utah-Michigan, but as stated, no sound. Call to DirecTV suggested that other ABC affiliates are having sound issues, not just WTAE.

This was occurring frequently during the Olympic coverage as well. The signal from my OTA antenna (AM-21) was perfect, so it should not have been a problem with the NBC feed or WPXI's transmission.

I agree. This is a longstanding issue. Frankly I would not doubt if it has been there since day one with the PIT LIL. I get the same thing with WTAE and the difference between OTA and the DirecTV LIL feed.

DirecTV just needs to give this some attention and I'm sure they can fix it. It has been happening for a very long time.

Thanks DBStalk for giving DirecTV an easy avenue for feedback. I certainly don't have enough free time to call them on issues such as these.

Experiencing audio breakups and partial video breakups with a portion of the screen turning green for maybe a a second at a time before returning to normal. I have been watching a lot of NBC since the Ryder Cup started on Saturday and this has happened much too frequently over the last few days. Saw a lot of this problem during the Olympics. I thought things had gotten better but now things are getting worse again.

WPXI Channel 11 (NBC)
Plenty of blocky/pixelated glitches and instances of garbled audio during Heroes.

I would just record everything off my AM-21 if the trickplay wasn't so sluggish.

Had the same issues. Don't know if the problem is with DirecTV or WPXI's uplink to the satellite but I can't stand it anymore. I'm switching to OTA HD for all my recordings until this gets fixed.

During the Emmys Sunday night on WTAE, there were electronic brrs/burps sounds every fifteen minutes or so. This seems to be a constant problem with the channel.

does anyone get the pittsburgh locals via OTA as well? Are there similar problems or are the problem via DTV only?

I do, with the AM-21 OTA tuner. The problems I have been reporting in this thread are only visible on the DIRECTV feeds.

Audio Dropouts -- Pittsburgh area. Most noticeable over the NBC-HD affiliate (satellite) but also occurs with ABC-HD. Video seems unaffected but there is no sound for a couple of seconds. Some days I don't notice it at all and other days it occurs two or three times per hour (always when something really important is being said.

I have been having problems with this channel since fall. The picture stutters and suffers from audio dropouts. It was very bad yesterday with no audio at all until 8:30PM. My brother lives 10 miles away and has the same issue. I have this on both H20-100 and HR20-700. Reported the issue last night. DTV said they have not had any ther reports of this. Hard to believe.

Actually, NBC has gotten much better over the sat. It used to be pretty bad 100% of the time. Now only seems to have problems maybe 10% of the time.

I am noticing an increase in problems on FOX. One night, maybe 3-4 weeks ago (i forgot exactly when) I tuned into fox and all i saw was a "we are having a problem with the fox signal, please don't call".. and ever since then the fox signal has has audio drop out issues.

Fox is still not as bad as NBC was at it's worst.

NBC over the air works fine for me, but I can't get fox over the air. It won't pick it up. (using a pair of crappy rabbit ears)

One wishes they would just fix the local problems for good. I have a feeling we might have to wait till the whole digital transition takes place. Direct TV is only receiving the broadcast and re transmitting it to us. If there are problems on DirectTV then there are probably problems in the OTA as well. Only the OTA problems are very very slight, and get magnified greatly during the re-encoding on Direct TV.

So Direct TV could do one thing. They could work on their encoding and re-broadcasting process so as NOT to make the problems worse.

Anyone know what's going with WPXI? They don't seem to be airing their late night programming in HD tonight.
