HD locals recording in SD

We finally started getting HD locals from DirecTV last week, but now my HR20-700 has an odd problem.

A scheduled recording of an HD program on one of the HD locals only records in SD. If I change the channel to the HD local from another channel, while the scheduled recording is in progress, I see it in HD. If I then choose to record this "HD version" of the channel, and look at my list of recordings, I see 2 of the same channel recording...one in SD, and one in HD!

Any idea what's going on? I've already tried restarting the unit, to no avail. As of now I've only confirmed this weirdness on one channel, but I'll try a few more soon.

The SD and HD versions of the locals will both appear in the guide as the same channel (i.e. 4). The HD version is the one with the call letters (i.e. WDIV). Are you sure you were recording the HD version.

To eliminate this confusion, hit menu - Parental,Fav's&Setup - System Setup - Display. Once there, from the preferences tab, where it says Guide HD Channels, select Hide SD duplicates from the drop down.
Just to clarify, in my house I get three versions of the local FOX channel. "10 KSAZ" refers to the MPEG-4 sat version, "10-1 KSAZDT" refers to the MPEG-2 OTA HD version, and "PN10" refers to the SD version over sat. If you set a SP, it should be dedicated to whichever channel you set it for (so maybe it pays to be careful in setting those up) but if you are certain that the channel recording is different than what you set up, there may be some mapping issues not handled properly, especially if you are in a brand-new LIL market. Can you repeat the experiment on another DVR or a neighbor's (DTV) DVR? If so, with similar results, I would complain long and loudly to DTV.

Also, even if you hide the SD duplicates, make sure to cancel any series links on the SD version and redo them on the HD version.
I originally discovered this problem after canceling my OTA recordings, and switching them to HD locals. And yes, we ARE a new HD locals market... Mobile/Pensacola.

The problem is definitely due to the SD duplicates. I didn't realize the SD duplicates setting applied to local channels. I assumed that HD locals completely replaced SD locals!

The SD duplicates were definitely turned off, yet recording a local HD channel resulted in an SD recording. I then turned on SD duplicates, and immediately saw that the recordings were actually set to the SD channel, even though this obviously should not have been the case. I repeated this exact same test on my second HR20-700, with the same results.

So is this a mapping issue? I'm working around the problem by keeping the SD duplicates enabled, and making sure to choose the HD version of the channel. It's not a big deal now that I know what's going on, but it obviously needs to be corrected. Will it eventually clear up, or should I go ahead and call DirecTV?

How are you setting up the recording?
I have hide SD channels, and usually find a program through my guide and setup my series link from there. I've never had SD recording come up instead of HD, but I've had to change [delete and setup new] my series links when I've changed from one channel to another, in this case my DNS HD feeds to local HD.

When our HD locals were turned on last week, I deleted the original OTA recordings, then recreated them using the guide. This was with SD duplicates turned off. Once I noticed the recordings were in SD, I tested several others channels by selecting them directly from the guide, again with SD duplicates turned off. I believe 3 of the 4 I tested recorded in SD. Next I turned on SD duplicates, and saw that the SD version of the channels were recording, instead of the HD version.

It might be worth pulling the power cord for 10+ min and then let it boot back up.
It seems as if your DVR is still remembering your old settings.
