ABC 7 out of Sarasota is now being broadcast on Channel 40.

Direct TV (end of June 2009) -- WWSB ABC 7 is now available on satellite television, exclusively on DirecTV. Subscribers to DirecTV's HD Access tier of channels will be able to watch WWSB ABC 7 on HD Channel 40.

"We are pleased that DirecTV is the first satellite company to offer truly local coverage of the Suncoast by including WWSB ABC 7 on its HD tier of channels," says General Manager Manny Calvo.

Seems like a bizarre statement, but: Channel 40 is their old analog over-the-air channel number (and apparently still their virtual digital channel number). They call themselves "ABC 7" on the air because of the channel number they've gotten on most cable systems in the Sarasota/Bradenton area.
It appears My Network TV is available in HD now also on Directv.

Are you talking about WTTA - Channel 38??? I noticed this too. They look like they are still broadcasting mostly SD shows in 720p, but before I jumped to any conclusions, I wanted to check in here. I am going to post this somewhere else on this forum with a little more "finger" traffic... :)
Wow it took almost two months and reading this thread to notice channel 40 is finally on Directv......

What a waste of the local frequency spectrum......
Has anyone ever seen WWSB in HD on channel 40? Everytime I go buy that channel it's all SD.

Unless something has changed recently (it's not really a channel I watch), DirecTV is indeed just broadcasting an upconverted SD signal for that channel.
I noticed flipping through channels that the Sarasota ABC channel is now really HD and not just an unconverted signal.
Anyone else having stuttering and pixelating on WTSP?
All locals are out for the Tampa St Pete DMA including 8, 10, 13, 28, 32 and 44. I first noticed at about 5:50 PM when I tried to tune in channel 28 to watch the local news.
Channels 8 and 38 are out for me due to the nexstar dispute.
