HD monthly fee or not?

A Directv rep told me a few weeks ago quote....

"we don't charge anything extra for the HD channels"

So, what is it?

I see the "HD package" at 9.95 a month. Huh?

Other than an OTA tuner for HD locals that I'm using now, I may just pass on the satellite HD until it all comes through the wash. ?

Thanks

Could it be possible that they do not charge for the HD locals? Maybe the HD package consists of the other HD channels, like ESPN, HDNet, etc. I have the HD package myself, and I never paid attention to this. :)
Yeah, I think HD locals are free if you get locals.
There's no extra charge for the HD locals. The HD package consists of TNTHD, DiscoveryHD, a couple of ESPN HD channels, HDnet, and UHD. The channels in the 70's.
Do you need the HD package in order to get premium package HD, such as Showtime or HBO, if you already subscribe to that premium package? Or are they treated like local channels - if you pay for and get the SD version, you will also get the HD version?

Carl
If you pay for HBO or Showtime you get the HD feeds at no extra charge. Just like locals.
The HD package consists of TNTHD, DiscoveryHD, a couple of ESPN HD channels, HDnet, and UHD.
There is no charge for TNTHD since it carries the exact same programming as the standard def TNT channel. As indicated, the HD premium channels are included with the package price you pay for the standard def channels for HBO or Showtime. DTV is charging you an extra $10/month for just a few HD channels. I dropped the HD package months ago since I rarely watched any of the channels. The few non-OTA channels I do watch aren't in HD so there's no point for me to pay extra for something I don't watch.
The Directv HD Package Website (link) says that TNTHD, ESPNHD ESPN2HD, Universal HD, Discovery HD, HDNet Movies, HDNet, and Directv PPV in HD are all part of the HD package. Can anyone verify getting any of these channels without paying for the package.

Also, what about channels that are sometimes show HD programming on another channel (FSN, Versus, NFL Network, etc..)? Are you able to get those without the HD package?

Personally, the only thing I care about seeing in HD other than the networks is hockey and football so after football season, I plan on canceling the HD package since I only need it for ESPN (if I'm correct in what is included in the package).
OK, boys, the basics:

You pay $9.95 for the HD package that includes:

Channels:

72-ESPN2 HD
73-ESPN HD
74-Universal HD
75-TNT HD
76-Discovery HD Theater
78-HDNet Movies
79-HDNet
....................................

You do not pay extra for HBO HD, or Showtime HD, you just get them when you subscribe to HBO or Showtime.

You do not pay extra for the RSN's in HD

You do not pay extra for channel 101 to show up in HD on your HD receiver

You do not pay extra for locals in HD either from Directv or OTA antennas
.........................................

You do pay for the NFL games in HD, by purchasing the SuperFan package as an add-on to NFL Sunday Ticket (some people get it for reduced or free based on loyalty programs)

You do pay for HD Pay-Per-Views on channel 99 (well, DUH)
...........................

Everybody GOT that? Good.
Hope that helps.

Would anyone that doesn't pay for the HD package like to add to this in the HD channels that may receive?
FYI you CAN get TNT HD WITHOUT the HD PACK!! i get this on directv channel 75 with my HD-10-250 TIVO.

And with TNT HD, you're getting exactly what you're paying for.

I'm not the NBA fan I used to be, but at one time there were many NBA games on TNT. Has this changed?

They carry two NBA games every Thursday night.
