HD/SD Receivers & Multiswitch Question

673 Views 9 Replies 5 Participants Last post by  bobnielsen
I recently completed a self install upgrade from an old round dual LNB dish to 5 LNB Slimline. I now have a combination of HD and SD receivers. My question is, can I use the old Terk multiswitch I had on my old system to feed an SD receiver? Here's what I'm thinking:

Slimline Outputs:
1 --> Living Room (HR-22)
2 --> Living Room (HR-22)
3 --> Garage (really old SD receiver)
4 --> Terk Multiswitch --> 2 Outputs --> Bedroom (Tivo SD receiver)

Will this work? Thanks for your feedback.

You will need a WB68 multiswaitch made by Zinwell as you already have 4 HD tuners being used. The WB68 will work with all equipment. The Terk will not pass the higher frequencies used for HD.
can't you put your old dish on garage for the old sd receiver? would that allow the new dish to power the 2 dvr's without buying a switch? not sure how the older tivos work with the new dish.

The standard Slimline will feed any of D*'s receivers.
Thanks for the replies.

DAVRING: I actually only have 2 HD tuners (the HR-22). The Tivo is SD.
So I think I should be able to use the old multiswitch for the SD Tivo?

David: I currently have both dishes installed and am feeding the garage receiver with the old round dish. I'm just trying to clean things up and already have the Terk multiswitch from the prior installation.

Thanks, guys.
With four Slimline outputs, 2 to the HR, I believe you could use the remaining two to the Terk and go with SD from there.

Maybe I'm missing something here but with 2 DVRs, these would use all four outputs.

The simplest way is to go with the Zinwell WB68 [eight outputs].
I'm confused, is there only 1 hr22?

me too but:
Slimline Outputs:
1 --> Living Room (HR-22)
2 --> Living Room (HR-22)

this seems to be only one receiver

3 --> Garage (really old SD receiver)

4 --> Terk Multiswitch --> 2 Outputs --> Bedroom (Tivo SD receiver)
Here is where the problem would be, since the one feed from the dish can't handle two separate feeds for the Tivo

You would need to run two of the Slimline outputs to the Terk Multiswitch and feed both SD receivers from that:

Slimline Outputs:
1 --> Living Room (HR-22)
2 --> Living Room (HR-22)
3 --> Terk
4 --> Multiswitch --> 2 Outputs --> Bedroom (Tivo SD receiver)
--> 1 Output --> Garage SD receiver

Darn forum software won't let me line these up :(
