I thought that the new HDUI was suppose to be HD even on SD channels...this isn't happening to me. The GUI is HD on HD channels and grainy and barely readable on SD channels.

Was I wrong?

The resolution the receiver is set to is the resolution of the GUI overlay. So if you're on a 480 channel you get 480 guide.

Menu. Settings & help. Setting. Display.

Video. Native off
Tv resolutions. Just choose what your tv supports I only leave 720p 1080i and 1080p selected

That worked perfectly! If I have had the settings like that all along and would the old guide have been HD on SD channels? That's 5 years I won't get back.

No the old guide was 480p/i just stretched to 720p or 1080i/p. Or at least that was my understanding but it always was stretched out and ugly.

Try the Format button on the remote near the top left second one down to see if your in 720vs1080

How can an HD guide be on an SD output? That makes no sense. An HD guide is formatted for an HD set, otherwise you get an SD guide output to an SD set.

Am I missing something?! Buy an HD set.

The GUI is HD when it's being output in HD.
