Hi I have the same problem with my new Samsung HL-S5687W 1080P DLP TV, when I connect the HDMI picture plays for a few seconds, freezes and then goes to black, it keeps doing this constantly. Everything is fine with component cables. Called Samsung but they are pointing the finger at Directv, Directv admits that they know about the problem and are trying to fix it, when, nobody knows. Directv didn't bother to tell me about this problem before I signed up with them, so I'm thinking about calling the better business bureau about this. Samsung and Directv should have communicated to each other about this problem and solved it. I'm tired of being the guinea pig for these companies

atleast the component cable will smooth out some of the macro blocking due to low bit rates

I beg to differ. Component signals are analog. I see a difference on my Toshiba 37HL95 -- not a GREAT difference - but noticeable. There should be NO difference between HDMI and DVI - both are digital. Only difference is that HDMI also carries audio signals, while - with DVI - you would also need to connect audio cables in addition to the DVI.

So you're saying that's it's pretty much safe to say that the incompatibility issues via HDMI with the H20's and Samsung HL-S models will never be resolved because of what you mentioned?

The HDCP (digital copy protect) likely errors on conservative. Meaning if something does not respond exactly right it blocks the transfer.

HDMI is a very good idea but the HDCP protocol was necessary evil required for its industry adoption.

The adoption of HDMI (w/HDCP) has been so fast it not a wonder there is inter-manf. compatibililty problems.
