Hdmi issues with hr20

I'm getting frustrated with my trusty HR20. I just moved it into a new room, and it can't seem to connect to the LG LCD there via HDMI. This room and tv previously had a HR22 connected via HDMI with no issues, and the HR20 was connected to a different tv via HDMI, so both dvr and tv should be fine. When I rebooted the HR20, the loading screens (this should take a minute, etc.) appeared, but once it got fully booted, nothing. TV just says no signal.

Any ideas, or am I stuck using components (which I'd rather use for the slingbox)?

Try pressing the res button on the front of the HDDVR or the format button on the remote. All tv's don't suport all resoulutions. HDDVR's boot up in 480p after that it's whatever was last set.

Silly question, did you verify that the HDMI input you plugged into matches the input selected on the TV?

Yes, of course. And when I switch the TV input over to HDMI, it says "Connecting" for a couple seconds, then no signal.

Furthermore, since HDMI wasn't working, I hooked it up via components. Now when I turn it on, the picture flashes on and off for about a minute, and then it's fine. What the crap is going on here? This HR20 worked perfectly in my living room.

Could it have anything to do with the fact that it's been running really hot?
Absolutely. How do you know it is running hot? What temp is being reported?
Well, it just felt really hot. Now that I actually check, it's 122 degrees. I'm no expert, but that seems dangerously high. Oy.
Is there a fan inside this thing, or is it all passive heat displacement? Because I don't see an obvious fan vent.

122 degrees is fine. My DVRs run around that temp or so. Vey.

Try the HR20 back on the original TV and see if it works. If it doesn't, there's a good chance the HDMI output just went on the DVR. You could also swap out the cable just to make sure that the cable isn't the problem.

There may be a difference in the firmware version supported by the HR20 and the HR22. One was probably built with whatever was the current version in 2006, and the other was probably built with whatever was current in 2009. And the TV may not be compatible with the earlier version, although if implemented properly, HDMI is supposed to be backward compatible. But its a big "IF".

I would post this question on AVSForums under the thread for your particular model of LG TV. Maybe its a known issue. It is definitely a failed handshake, but I doubt there is an easy fix, unless there is a firmware update for your LG.

How about a firmware update for the HR20?

Ah-hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaahaha!
