Hi all,

Just ordered my HDTV TV. Circuity City has some HR20's, should I get it there or call DTV directly?

Right now I have the 3LNB dish Aspen Eagle, If I get the HR20 at Circuit City and hook up the receiver to the dish I currently have (will upgrade to the 5LNB Dish, but have to wait for install), will I get any HD Channels?

You could get the HR20 from Circuit City, but you may be able to get a deal if you go through D*.

You will get HD channels with a 3LNB dish, but it will only be the MPEG2 national HD channels (Discovery HD, HDNet, HDNet Movies, TNT HD, ESPN HD, ESPN2 HD). You'll be missing out on the HD locals (if your area receives them) until you get your 5LNB dish install.

Given DirecTV still is in a waiting list/backorder mode for the HR20.
If your Circuit City has one, I would get it there.

Sure, you will get the HD-Package channels, if you subscribe to the HD Package

Thanks for the quick response. I live in Ocean County New Jersey and receive the NY Locals, are they available in both MPEG2 and MPEG4?

Yep, NY locals are both in MPEG2 and MPEG4 (for now anyway). The channels carried are WCBS, WNBC, WNYW, and WABC in both MPEG2 and MPEG4.

K, thanks. Will I be able to get the MPEG2 with the 3LNB dish?

Yes, the MPEG2 channels for those will be:

80 - WCBS
82 - WNBC
86 - WABC
88 - WNYW
Thank you all, for the responses.

Just wanted to be able to setup my HDTV with the HR20, and have HD until the new dish gets installed.

One more question, sorry.

I have Sunday Ticket and would also like to upgrade to the Superfan for the HD games.

Would this be a problem, until I get the new dish installed?

Thanks.

No problem at all. At this point, SuperFan is all MPEG2 and available to all HD capable receivers. The mix channels and redzone are available to all receivers, but work best on the interactive receivers, ie the newer ones: D10, H10, HR20, R15.

Cheers,
Tom

Yep you should be fine Mpeg 2 isnt going away for a bit, but its nice to have the Mpeg4 on the lower number channels.

As for the backorder I dont think its even that long at all now, I believed DTV has restocked.

I have a feeling (just an opinion) the backorder may have been part of an effort to resolve alot of issues with the box.

I got mine in Nov (and had one download to it since) and its working perfectly, knock on wood.

I think I have the same question as djfrankie, but I don't have the option of updating my dish. I live in an MDU, and we only have 3LNB + OTA available. I just bought the Sunday Ticket (so I could get it the remainder of this year and next year too), but want to see the games in HD. I guess I need the SuperFan package, but I'm getting mixed signals.

D* couldn't add it to my service and is telling me that I need a 5LNB dish, while the company that provides our building service says that the Sunday Ticket HD channels are one one of the satellites that 3LNB dishes can access. I'm hoping that D* was just having problems because of the promotion I used to get the Sunday Ticket, but does someone here know?

Thanks in advance.

The 3LNB dish receives the HD MPEG2 NFL games just fine this year. Next year that may not be the case if they decide to broadcast the games in MPEG4. Then you'll need the 5LNB dish.
