Help 2 DVR's and 1 remote

2069 Views 28 Replies 7 Participants Last post by  jimmie57
Hello, years ago a Directv tech set this up( RC 65 RX), and I am no techie. I have 2 HR20-700's, both set to RF. I use the slider at the top of the remote, one with Directv Logo and the other AV1. The tech guy, was telling me what he was doing...something about the last 4 or 5 digits of the DVR..My remote has bitten the dust, my question is of course, can anyone give rather simple instructions on how to program a new remote ( I haven't got one yet)? Will I have to mess with the DVR's since they are already set for RF? Thanks for any help!!!

If the DVRs stay the way they are now:

1. dtv

3. enter 0 0 0 0 1
4. press and hold MUTE & SELECT for two blinks
5. enter 9 6 1
6. press CH UP
7. enter the last 6 digits of the receivers ID #, found on a sticker in the access card compartment
8. press SELECT

And for the other:

1. AV1 or AV2
2. press and hold MUTE & SELECT for two blinks
3. enter 0 0 0 0 1
4. press and hold MUTE & SELECT for two blinks
5. enter 9 6 1
6. press CH UP
7. enter the last 6 digits of the Receiver ID #, found on a sticker in the access card compartment

If they are currently set to RF, and you want to use another [new] remote, you'll be "just" coding the remote to RF as the receivers are already that way.
Great, thx!
just got a new remote, RC 65, not RX Like my old one. They say it will work, it isn't.
The remote has to have an "R" after the model number for it to do RF.
The "X" means it is interactive with the 25,25 and 34 models of receivers.
Man, you'd think these people would know this crap!! It's been a while since I've spoken to them, I told her, make sure you send me an RF compatible..I got it in less than one day. Try again, Thx ALL!

One last question, I hope.. I've received and programed the new remote to both receivers, YES! And it works, my wife thinks i'm a genius, then she tried to adjust the volume. The installer, that set it up also set the "volume". No matter where my slider was, either Directv or AV1, the volume could be adjusted. I have both receivers audio wired directly to my Denon A/V receiver, bypassing the TV altogether. The booklet that came with it isn't helping and am afraid to call D*, anymore help?
Program the Denon to AV2.

If you have already done that and do not have sound,
Move the slider to AV2,
program in 993 and press the Select Button.

Sound will always go to the Denon.
You need to unlock the remote first in most cases.
If you're still having problems, put the remote in TV mode do the 993 and volume down should get 4 blinks on the TV light on the remote. Move the slider to AV 2 is that is where the sound receiver is programed than do 993 and volume up to lock it to the sound receiver. You may have to disable RF mode first.

No, never use 993 VOL UP. It may mess up other device, if theres dvd code, you now have its own volume, instead of tv or stereo volume.

So with tv code in, or the volume keys won't work at all, to get the stereo volume in single device:

1. av1 or av2
2. press and hold MUTE & SELECT, wait for two blinks, release
3. enter 9 9 3
4. press VOL DOWN

If you want stereo volume in ALL devices:

1. av1 or av2
2. press and hold MUTE & SELECT, wait for two blinks, release
3. enter 9 9 3
4. press SELECT

Sorry posted that off memory and it has been a while sence I did a volume lock change on a remote.
Hello, I'm still trying to to program my emote to control my volume, through my Denon receiver. All codes do not work. I called D*, they ran through the set up and , nothing. Scanned nothing. It worked before when installer set it up. I have a Denon AVR-2106, trying to find codes..Anymore help would be more than appreciated!!
Do you have a tv code programmed in? The volume keys won't work without one programmed to the TV device. Other denon codes to try are 30004, 30160.

The volume keys NEVER work initially with ANY audio code, reason is the volume keys won't work unless there a tv code present, once theres a tv code its volume is now in the way, but that can be remedied:

1. av1 or av2
2. press and hold MUTE & SELECT, wait for two blinks, release
3. enter 9 9 3
4. press VOL DOWN

If you want stereo volume in ALL devices:

1. av1 or av2
2. press and hold MUTE & SELECT, wait for two blinks, release
3. enter 9 9 3
4. press SELECT

Don't worry about being a pest.
Program the TV code with the selector in the TV spot.
Program in the Denon with the selector in the AV2 spot,
Program in 993 and Select with the selector in the AV2 spot.
