I need to run 3 monitors one 50ft one 75ft and one 100ft from the source.(dvd or blue ray)and d* receiver.so i know i need a switcher and hdmi cables.my question is will the amplified splitter go that far without signal loss or other problems.Iv'e looked at monoprice and they have a 4 way but it's on backorder. The only other one they have is an 8 way rack mount.has anyone done something similar without problems and where else can i buy this stuff affordably.thanks in advance

You should be fine with the cables from monoprice, just get the good 22awg ones like this:
http://www.monoprice.com/products/p...=1024002&p_id=2893&seq=1&format=2#description

or this (for 100ft)
http://www.monoprice.com/products/p...=10240&cs_id=1024002&p_id=2894&seq=1&format=2

Reviewers report no problems with those, and I wouldnt think you should have any issues.

Note that there are no HDMI "Splitters" as the source/monitor have to handshake since it is a digital interface. The switches are usually meant to switch between multiple devices going to one monitor, but I think they might work in reverse to do what you want (aka one source input and selecting which output monitor to go to).

I have used this 4x1 switch with my HR21 with no issues at all:
http://www.monoprice.com/products/p...=10110&cs_id=1011002&p_id=4088&seq=1&format=2

Note though that most switches will not pass HDCP successfully (for some current and future Bluray, etc.)

That will get very pricey though as the fiber cables are expensive as are the client devices for the HDMI-Fiber link.

they have a 2x1 switch that will work fine

monoprice has a powered amplifier/splitter that is 1 to 4 (backorder 4 to 6 weeks)
was going to have d* reciver and dvd into switch 2 in 1 out to splitter 1 in 4 out(in my case 3...will this work

I'd look at the 4x2 matrix at monoprice if I were you... because I assume your trying to hook up equipment next to one tv and have it available for a second as well, and the matrix switcher allows you to do that and let you watch different things at he same time.

Do this for us, list your source devices/locations, and then where you want them to be sent + distances etc. Also do you need to be able to view one device in more than one place at the same time and/or do you want to be able to view different devices at the same time at different locations?

For example:

Media Closet:
HR21
Bluray
DVD Player
(all HDMI)

75ft to Living Room:
LCD TV, 1 HDMI input

100ft to bedroom:
Plasma TV, 2 HDMI inputs.

The problem is HDMI cannot just be split like Component or other analog video because it is digital and needs a 1:1 handshake.

conference room...dvd,d*reciever both hdmi to switcher 2 in 1 output to amplified splitter 1 input 3 output (it has 4 outputs but i only need 3)

office 1 50 ft away
office 2 75ft away
office 3 100ft away

all 3 offices will play the same thing they just want all 3 to play at same time w/ one source or the other. i just want to make sure down the line when they change devices the best possible cable is used so they won't call me to fix it.

So they already have the switcher and splitter?
no was going to get it at monoprice but it's backordered 4 to 6 weeks so i was wondering where else to buy one and if anyone has a similar setup without having problems like signal loss or issuses w/ handshake as you put it

Ok, then it SHOULD work based on what the reviews have said, but there can be issues. Things always get a bit finicky because of the handshake thing. Your proposed setup should work, reviews on monoprice have said directv receivers work with that setup.

Just search google for "1X4 Powered HDMI Splitter" and you should find plenty of places to buy it or comparable products.

There are some better quality ones out there, but they are a lot more expensive:

I think it should work. Look at the reviews on the 75ft cable..plenty of people say it works fine. I would imagine the same would be true for the 100ft cable.

As long as you are not doing 1080p, you should be good. (but of course I cannot make any guarantees!)

I don't think you'll know until you try it. I have one of the Monoprice "splitters" (distribution amp), and I seem to remember that the specs say it doesn't work above something like 30 feet. I ended up using it with a 35 foot run (with one of the heavy gauge cables), and have no problems. But 100 feet is another issue. But I believe Monoprice has a decent return policy, so if it doesn't work, you should be able to send it back without losing too much.

Then hopefully they're better (because I now need a 1x4). But I don't believe the 1x2 did either until people reported problems with it. Like I said, I have absolutely no problem with mine: works as advertised. Just throwing the heads-up out there.

Run Cat5 x2 to each location. Buy component in-wall baluns and audio in-wall baluns. Why do you need to use HDMI?

You really won't notice any difference in picture quality, at least the average person.

In the future when HDMI is needed, buy in-wall HDMI baluns when they are cheaper. Wholesale costs are still high, $90-$120 each.
