Hi All,

So I received a new HD receiver from a friend and bought a used slimline 3LNB off craigslist to set up.

I have put all the information in that it is telling me with the azimuth, tilt and elevation. But after numerous hours of trying to allign the dish it is saying no signal when I go to the signal meter page.

Please help me.

I am new to this whole thing so maybe someone has some advice that I havent seen on the internet.

I have the 3 LNB slimeline multiswitch ( It doesnt say SWM like my neighbors dish right next to it) So I am guessing it is a multi switch?

Also to add to this story. I tried to put my LNB to her dish but her tv wont read the signal. Any reason why? Maybe her tv settings are for SWM only?

Does the LNB have one output or 4? One is SWM, 4 is multiswitch. Also, while this will not affect aiming, the SL5 has 3 feedhorns while the SL3 has one. 99,101, and 103 are all in the center feedhorn.

My dish has 4 outputs so I dont have the SWM dish like I have been researching on this site after I posted on this forum..

Am I missing anty equipment to run this dish?

What are the receivers? Are there boxes hanging off the inputs in back? Wondering if not having a DECA would cause this.

Yeah I have one feedhorn... One big eye and two little ones on the side. I can tell you that for sure even if I am new to dish setup. ha!

If I am reading this correctly my receivers would be 99/101/103

When it is on the signal meter page it is trying to find 101

I am on the settings that Directv tips and tools page told me it was....

That is 130 azimuth , 54 elevation, 119 tilt...

I can mess with the elevation a little bit... but when I scan very slowly through my azimuth I dont show up with any signal.

Well can't be an H25. If its anything but an H23, including the H24, you need a b band converter between the cable coming from the dish and the coax connection on the receiver.

If the receiver is a H25 you must have SWM. H24 and prior will work with multiswitch but you do need a bbc on the sat input. However lack of the BBC will not affect reception of 101

Check the model number, as the photos don't show it.

IF this is an H23 then you don't need the B-Band converters even on the non SWiM dish that you have.

Yeah the model number is H23-600


So why am I having trouble finding a signal then? Is it just me setting it up on the settings or is it something else?


Where my coax cable goes into the receiver it does say Satellite in ( SWM-1)

it's all about dish alignment.


Alignment:


Set Azimuth, Elevation and Tilt based on the customers Zip Code

Rough peak the Azimuth pointing at the 101 satellite location by obtaining the highest possible signal level on your signal level meter, with the azimuth rough aligned, tighten the mast clamp bolts.
Using the Azimuth screw bolt, turn clock wise and counter clock wise until you get the highest signal level on the 101 satellite.
Using the Elevation screw bolt, turn clock wise and counter clock wise until you get the highest signal level on the 101 satellite.
Record the signal level for 101, Set the Elevation plastic dial to zero.
Using the Elevation screw bolt, turn 2 full turns counter clock wise, record the signal level. Rotate the bolt clockwise counting the number of turns until the same signal level is reached. Divide this number of turns by 2, turn the Elevation plastic dial to zero.
Rotate the Elevation screw counter clock wise by the divided number of turns, tighten the Elevation bolts down.
The signal level should be the same or higher than with your rough alignment.
Record the signal level for 101, Set the Azimuth plastic dial to zero.
Using the Azimuth screw bolt, turn 2 full turns counter clock wise, record the signal level.
Rotate the bolt clockwise counting the number of turns until the same signal level is reached. Divide this number of turns by 2, turn the Azimuth plastic dial to zero.
Rotate the Azimuth screw counter clock wise by the divided number of turns, tighten the Azimuth bolts down. The signal level should be the same or higher than with your rough alignment.
Check all nuts and bolts and make sure they are tightened to specification. Pay close attention to the LNB lock down bolts. They must be installed wrench tight to prevent LNB movement.

Hi All,

Is this a new, not yet activated, receiver that you are going to set up on a new account? I'm not sure DirecTV will permit that (I think they require that they do the install for new accounts).

If the receiver is activated on your friends account, then it is a violation of his terms of service for you to use it at a different location that the account exists at.

If it is a de-activated receiver from his account, you probably won't be able to activate it, as the receiver would be leased and he has to return it to DirecTV. They will not activate a previously leased receiver on another account (without first processing the receiver back through their system).

So even if you get the dish properly aligned, you are either (a) going to have a lot of trouble setting up a new account with it, or (b) be in violation of the terms of service if it is on his account. So bottom line is, you are probably better off not going to the effort to align the dish.

Jon, Directv would come out and set up a basic system like that for free if you called them. Any particular reason you just don't let them take care of it for you? Why would you go through any of this effort when its completely unnecessary?

The problem might be that you are not using the correct menu item to allign the dish. The first screen you find is the signal strength screen that shows all the transponders for a particular satellite. From that screen you can select "signal meters" to see the strength of an individual transponder in real time. This is the screen you want to watch if you are not using an installation meter, since it will respond almost instantly to any changes in the signal. If you have cordless phones in your house you might be able to use the intercom feature to communicate with someone inside who is watching the signal for you as you aim the dish. Some areas of the country have blank transponders on the 101(use this one for aiming)satellite, so if you can call someone to find an active transponder that would prevent some fruitless searching.
