Our Tupelo, MS NBC station just began broadcasting HD. Their normal analog channel is 9. My HR20 shows their channel as 9-1.

However, WTVA is actually broadcasting on 8-1. I know that some of the receivers will map back to 9, but I don't think that's what is going on here.

I can't find a way to manually search for channels on the HR20 like I could on the old HR10-250. Am I just missing it?

It seems that the only way it (the HR20) gets channel information is from the satellite.

I can get the FOX station that is on the same tower as WTVA, so I don't think signal is a problem. I get 95% from the Fox channel.

Any ideas? TIA,

Elliott

Some of the Buffalo HR20 users have been able to trick the HR20 into tuning a non-guided Canadian station by inputting a secondary zip code under OTA setup.
You have to know what actual channel your desired station is using for broadcast, in the case of WTVA it's VHF 8 (according to Wikipedia).
Then you have to find another DMA with a station that also broadcasts on digital VHF 8 and is carried by DirecTV, preferably one that doesn't have any other channel that conflict with your other locals, and use a zip code for that area.
There are various sites and threads with DMA/channel listings, you'll have to rummage around, don't have anything handy here at work. You might also look around for the old thread on the Buffalo guys trying to get the Canadian channel for hockey. Oh never mind, found it:

Here is one of the sites listing DMAs and channels:

Saw lots of DMAs with stations broadcasting on 8 that you could try. I'd give Anchorage a go, KAKM PBS 7.n 8 is carried by DTV so the HR20 should tune frequency 8 for 7-1.
Let us know how it works (or doesn't) for you.

DirecTV will always display the logical channel number not the actual broadcast frequency in the guide on an HR20 or 21. So assuming your local channel is maintaining it's identity as channel 9 then the HD channel should be showing up and working as channel 9-1.

Have you checked antennaweb.com or tvfools.com to see what they say? It may be that the new channel is broadcasting at a lower power than fox. If fox is a UHF channel it might also be related to your antenna's ability to receive vhf frequencies well.

If everything else looks good you can try adding a secondary zip to trick the hr20 into tuning the correct frequency but the guide data will be all wrong obviously.

I may be confused as to the real question that you're asking.
Is it that your HR20 won't tune your NBC station?
