Heres my story:
So i was to have direct TV installed in my apartment the guy comes out goes to my balcony and tells me it wont get signal. I was like okay which way does it have to point. He says southwest, thats when i found out he was clearly lying, and apartment on the first floor has direct tv and their dish points directly southwest not south like he was pointing his stupid compass. So I told the guy to put dish away from the apartment on a pole, which he said wouldnt work because of the trees, which is bull**** because you could angle it away from the trees and it would still point southwest. I called direct tv than and will now have a supervisor come out in 48-72 hours and see. I dont have to be home, so i think its all bull****. I really dont know why these fu*ks dont want my business, but im pretty pissed off and not really sure what else to do. I clearly can get the service if there are 3 apartments below me that have it. Opinions anyone? Heres a little more info, I live on the 2nd floor of the apartment building, not very high up, you could jump off my balcony and land on the ground easily on two feet. The apartment under neath me has probably a 5 ft difference in balcony room. I went down and stood directly behind the dish and you can clearly get the same angle as my balcony.

Also is there a difference for the signal with HD??? Although i would love to have HD would it be easier to just go with a standard dish?

First off, :welcome_s to DBSTalk!

Sorry about your troubles. Having a supervisor come out was your best move.

The dishes that can receive all of the HD actually need to be able to view 5 different sats in the sky... So they can be a little tricky. The standard dish is definitely easier... but HD is definitely better... :D

Do you happen to know which dish your neighbor has?

Good luck with the supervisor and keep us posted.

Im not really sure, but i heard the HD dish is a little bigger and this dish looks pretty small to me, so my guess is they have the standard one. The pole in the ground the more and more i look at it had to go to my apartment. You can easily run the wires up the side of the building without being in the way, my opinion the guy just didnt want to do it. The supervisor hasnt come out yet, but i kind of pulled a fast one on them, i called and told them i was just going to cancel because dish network came out and said they could install their dish easily and that it actually points the same direction, they immediately set me up for another tech to come out.

You didn't have to lie to get a second opinion - they would have rolled a supervisor out if you asked politely.

Should be edited further to remove the four letter words... it doesn't help his case that he's calling the company he wants to start a relationship with a four letter word.
That seems to be the modus operandi lately tcusta.

will give you an idea of what you need to see. If the other dish is a SD dish it only needs to see 101. An HD dish needs to see 119 to be installed which is 18 degrees further west.
Thank you sir, i dropped that pointer right on my apartment and you can clearly get signal.

I would assume that he was referring to the 5th of November, but he used a U instead of an O

Just because your neighbor below you can get line of site does not mean that you can. First you need to go to your apartment manager and get a copy of their rules for dish installation. Lots of places only allow you to have the dish on a tripod in your balcony. If you stand on your balcony can you still get the same line of sight as the other dish.

You can get the exact same line of site, also my apartment has already signed the permission form, their exact words were you deal with the installation as long as you can get it installed we dont care. Also not sure if i said this earlier, there is a pole that now i am almost positive was used for my apartment.

When a company flat out lies to your face they deserve whatever you want to call them. What kind of customer service is that. I understand the installers dont work directly for direct tv, but if that is the case and im sure im not the only one this happens to, why would you want these people installing your equipment. The only reason I went with them is because of NFL sunday ticket, they would have been canceled in a heartbeat if i didnt love football so much.

I think they jury's still out on whether they lied to you... just a few degrees can make a difference as to whether you can get LOS, so just because other people in your building can doesn't mean you can.

and if someone called you a series of four letter words, justified or not, you would be upset, and would have reason to be so. Four letter words do not fly around here. they show a lack of education.

I guess you would have had to be there, the dish below me points southwest, the direction he was telling me was south, and when i showed him a perfect southwest angle from a pole that was most likely used for the same apartment he said he couldnt do it and left after about 5 minutes.
