So i was wondering if you kind people could help me out, I am in Los Angeles for the summer, I normally reside in Chicago, and brought my HR24-100 with me, as the place I am staying had a dish left by the previous owner with the inscription DTVSDLNB, is this dish compatible with the receiver, and if so, 1. do i need power to the dish, 2. better then 1800mhz cable, 3. BBC? .... I am a bit of a newb with installation, but I would really appreciate some advice, I have run the cable in to the receiver, but am getting the 771a error code.

thanks so much.

thanks VeryOldSchool for your response, the its you point me too just has a bunch of products on it, was there one I was supposed to be looking at?

and how would I go about acquiring a BBC? Is it as simple as going to radio shack or do I have to contact Directv for this?

again, thanks so much.

The link didn't copy as it should have so look at this one:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/ws/eBayISAP...015+&item=320830740015&lgeo=1&vectorid=229466

While you're there, they have BBCs too: http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_from=R40&_trksid=m570.l2736&_nkw=DirecTV+BBC

Otherwise call DirecTV

Thanks veryoldschool, that is indeed the LNB, i assume i don't need the SWM power to the dish, not sure in setup what dish to select in preferences, and i very well could be wrong, but should i not see the dish regardless of the presence of a BBC from the receiver? Now I am only getting the 771a message.....

thanks again for your assistance and helpful advice.

Sounds like, you do need the BBCs, and also need to re-run the SAT setup to get it off of the current SWiM setting.
Without BBCs, you might simply select the 18" round dish.
Once you have BBCs, then you can re-run it for the 5 LNB dish.

I am just going to order two runs of 100' rg-6 cable (i assume i need 2 on this dish to use the dvr dual tuning), this should suffice no? : http://www.monoprice.com/products/p...=10216&cs_id=1021603&p_id=3035&seq=1&format=2)

and two B-Band Converters, does this receiver or dish require a specific type of BBC? or should any of them work, i see many different models when perusing ebay etc.... I tried the 18" dish config, but still getting no signal, so i assume there is some bad cable (perhaps even a rg-59) in the run, so again, am ordering brand new cable from monoprice... but thanks again so much for your assistance, really helped clear things up for me veryoldschool, so i owe you one, i guess my last question was stated above, just regarding specificity of BBC's.....

have a great one.

I don't like it because "Its durable 18 AWG copper clad steel center"

Solid Copper Core is needed for the DC power to the LNB

I doubt you need quad shielding either.

Maybe look here: http://www.solidsignal.com/pview.as...RG6-with-High-Quality-Solid-Signal-Connectors
thanks again veryoldschool, ordered cables from the site you recommended, as well as 2 new bbc rev 3, hopefully it will all work, will find out in a few days, but a sincere thanks for taking the time to help me suss it out! :)
