First, thanks for any advice. Long-time lurker, first time poster here. I'm going to try to explain what I want and ask the experts here if they think it will work. I've had DTV on and off for over 15 years.. mostly for Sunday Ticket, so all of my questions are really around watching football on Sunday. I may get some of the terminology wrong since I've been out of the DTV family for 8 months or so.
I'd like to have a setup where I can have 3 tvs running at once in the basement, each with double play on so I can flip back and forth between 6 games in the early time slot. (yes, crazy, but I know I'm not the only one
).
Last year and the prior year, I accomplished this with the following setup:
Main level of house:
1 genie (gen 1 *I think* - the one that you connected to the tv and it provided 5 tuners and had a dvr).
1 wireless bridge thing
Basement:
(this is the main part - all 3 of these devices could do double play and have 2 different channels going)
1 hr24 (I think.. the one that was also a standalone dvr and provided 2 tuners). connected to coax.
2 wireless clients
Upstairs (2nd level of house):
1 wireless client - taken from basement when necessary - used little but nice option.
It appears from the new marketing and some preliminary research that the genie 2 server can provide enough tuners (i.e. more than 6) so that I can just get the genie 2 plus 3 wireless clients and be able to have 3 tvs with 2 games each via double play. Is that true? I realize this would be one less watchable "TV" plugged in than last year, but that is fine for a few hours a week.
If true, does anyone have feedback on how well doubleplay works over wireless? The setup I had before "worked" but the wireless clients were a little flaky and sometimes crashed at inopportune times. Is it likely that if my wireless coverage/performance was acceptable before with the main unit on the middle level that it would be acceptable with the new server unit?
Any other general genie 2 server double play experience/advice to share?
Unrelated...
Does dtv/nfl/espn still prompt about "using the new espn/whatever app" every single time you switch to a channel with live sports?
Any help/guidance is appreciated... thanks.
