As a long time lurked I apprecate all the great information this forum has provided and hope someone can help me with what is probably a common question but can be answered about my own system.
A little background first; I have remodeled a 1930's house and brought it up to 2008 standards. I gave my contractor specific directions on where and how many rg-6,cat-5, and hdmi I needed for each room. For the main tv room I have a hr-21, the problem is that only 1 of the rg-6 is wired to the outside (where the other was wired to behind a wall mounted tv) so I need to find a way to use the dual tuners. I have an 8 port multi-switch with 6 ports being used for the other rooms. I can not run another rg-6 to that room. Is a diplexer a doable option?

The only option for running an HD DVR on a single cable is a SWM. You can find lots of info on the forums about it.
No, a diplexer is not an option.

A "Single Wire Multiswitch", or SWM, may be. Lots of threads here about them.
You would have to upgrade your setup where you'd replace the WB68 switch with a SWM8 module. This will allow dual tuner operation over a single wire.
There are limits:
- Most likely DIY, D* will not provide the SWM8 to you.
- All IRDs need to be SWM compatible [ HR2x, R16, R22, D12 are], though the SWM8 does have 3 legacy ports for older IRDs.
Wow you guys are awesome! I had read about swm and had asked d* about it and now I know why they wouldn't consider it. My recievers are swm compatable (2 hr-21's and 2 d12's) where can I get a swm8 module and will my current dish (5lnb) work?

Solidsignal.com has them for $139 which is a good price. Or find member dave29 who sells them.

And yes the 5LNB will work. 4 wires from ODU to SWM8 , to an SWS splitter [ which you also need to purchase ] and then to the IRDs. There is a power inserted that needs to go in line also.

Some examples here: http://www.swm8.com/swm-wiring-examples.php
thanks for answering my questions instead of just directing me to an swm thread. Will I need a sws for the other hr21 and d12's? For the power is this a power block that is attached to rg6 in the house then that particular line is attached to the swm8( I had this on a previous d* setup)?

If all your lines come to one location you can just place the SWS there.
And it is indeed similar to a old powered switch but in this case the PI can actually placed in line. so IRD>PI>SWM
What I understand so far is that I will can use my dish I have now the 4 lines that come from it, connect them to a swm8, then for the one line that is going to the hr21 with only 1 available rg6 attach a sws then on the inside of house on that line a pi then to the hr21. For the other hr21 I can still use the 2 lines for it and do not need a sws or a pi.

Take a look at the diagrams in the earlier post, they are not bad, though I prefer the ones near the end of the file in this post. http://www.dbstalk.com/showpost.php?p=1721124&postcount=30

TBMK, you only need one PI. Your other HR21 will only need one of the 2 lines. You get a bonus one in that location !
Ok after having time to review the links this is my planned setup from odu->swm8->1x4 splitter from port swm1 do not use port 2, then on one of the lines a PI->IDR. Is it ok that the PI comes after the splitter?
As long as the splitter passes dc power on one port and not on the other 3.

How would you know? If i used a D* "approved" one would that work?

Most splitters that do will say 'DC pass' or 'power pass' on the port that does. I'd get a SWS splitter t make sure. the red ports on those are the DC pass.
