HR20 users, Hitachi announced a 1TB drive coming soon to a External cabinet near you.

I first came across the announcement via PCMAG
and here is the official Hitachi datasheet.

And PCMAG's CES Coverage

Lots more coming soon, the big stuff starts tomorrow (Sunday) to the press. The exhibits open Monday.
Cheers,
Tom

I hope this unit is better than the 200GB and 300GB units I've had in PCs the past 2 years - both failed. My neighbor also had bad experiences with Hitachi drives.

Bummer, but I'm sure they will have a FW release that will fix the problem soon!

I TB Raid 0 or Raid 5 Buffalo external Sata are $599 at Fry's this weekend. 2 TB is $1049. Granted it is an array of drives but the advantage is that you have redundancy.

How long before we will see eSATA Raid 5 arrays of 1 TB drives? 4 TB would hold maybe 200 HD movies? Remember when 10 MB seemed like more than you could ever fill in a lifetime?

100,000 times the capacity in 25 years. If Moores law still holds in 25 more years, Fry's will be selling the new 100 Petabyte hard drives. Every movie ever made would not be enough to fill it.
