home configuration problem

I tried to use dishnetwork's online configuration system. What I wanted was one vip622 dvr tuner for my big hdtv in the front room (i want just 1 tv hooked up to it to take advantage of dual tuner switching), 1 sd tuner in another room, and then 1 hd tuner in a third room. 3 separate tuners, no wires down the hallways or additional transmitters to get signals between rooms - that is an immutable requirement for me. :D

When my order confirmation came, it was 1 622 hd dvr and 1 sd dvr, with wires running down the hallway and only one hdtv watching an hd broadcast at a time. I called dishnetwork, got some guy in bangalore, proceeded to confuse him until he connected me to colorado and discussed the problem with the order configuration. They refused configure the order as i described above, even though i told them if it couldn't be done that way, no order from me. :nono2: So, the order was cancelled (but they keep my $250 charged to my debit card until they feel good and ready to refund it).

Is there something I'm just not getting about satellite tv? Why could this not be done? I live in an apartment with very cool honeywell genesis wiring throughout (power, cat5e, 2 coaxial, and 2 pots utp to every room) and all they need to do is place the dish on my master bedroom porch and flat coax through the double doors to cable center in my walk-in closet.

You should be able to call them and tell them that you want (1) 622 Dual channel HD DVR, one SD tuner (or DVR) and one HD tuner.

They have certain expectations about their customers and you've found out how far you can't push them.

I would suggest that you go to a authorized Dish reseller who does their own installs and work a deal. They are typically much more flexible and know how to push the right buttons with Dish.

What push? I basically told them that I wanted to run the vip622 in single mode, and would also like an additional 1 sd receiver and 1 hd receiver. Why would they care how I want it configured as long as I stay within the 4 tuner limit?

This is how I filled out the "builder" on their website, it wasn't until I got the email confirmation that I realized that they modified it.
well, i tried again, and told the cs rep that i wanted a 622, 211, and 311, running the 622 in single mode (and not using their dishbuilder system), and this particular person understood what i wanted. I guess the last guy was a dud or something, and if you try to do it via the website it prevents you using the 622 in anything other than dual mode...
What if i order the hd dvr and sd dvr even if i dont have an hd tv yet. Will they let me or when the installer arrives will there be a demand to see the hd tv.
Phlac,
That's great that you were able to get 2 HD tuners like you originally wanted.
Maybe the CSRs you talked to first didn't realize you had 2 HDTVs.

However, (and I know this is a moot point now), if your apartment is as equiped like you indicate, there would not have been cables running down hallways or additional tranmitters.

Apartment installations are very tricky due to restrictions in place by management and creativity is usually not permitted, so concessions sometimes have to be made (like cables running down hallways). But again, in your case, this would not have been necessary.

Now you get to see if you have Line of Sight for 3 sats on your Apt. porch.

Good luck, and again, congrats.
