Hopper/Joey Remote Learning Problem

My new 2 Hopper/4 Joey system works just fine, however, I'm having a problem with the remote on the Hopper in my family room learning discrete power on/off commands for my Yamaha RX-V657 A/V receiver. Apparently, the remote is not capable of learning discrete power commands. The default setup for the RX-V663 provides aux power off for the receiver, but not power on.
Also, when I use component output on the Hopper, I can't set up the remote to control TV volume instead of AVR volume.
The Hopper HDMI output feeds my AVR, but there are times when my family would prefer to watch TV without the AVR (hence the component out of the Hopper going to component in on the TV). All other functions of the remote work with no problem.

To change it between controlling the TV and AVR as the default, menu - settings - remote manager - volume

As for the discreet commands for power, the remote does have a learning mode, you could teach one of the unused buttons the power on command. That's also in the remote manager area. Select Aux Code, then "learn", then "Add Learned commands to existing code", then follow on-screen instructions. I think that'll do the trick for you.
