I have two older RCA boxes that I assume could not be mpeg 4 but I have two "newer" boxes that I don't know what they are .. one is a Phillips and one a Hughs box respectively..

I do have an older or the first generation of oval dish.. is this mpeg 2 only or not?

thanks for not ripping me on the answers..

There are no non DirecTV branded Mpeg4 boxes.
If you have an oval dish you may be able to get an HD channel or 2 if you had an HD box, but that will change very soon. There will be no HD without a slimline dish and an Mpeg4 box, H2x or HR2x.

Right. Philips and Hughes did not make MPEG-4 boxes. As far as your dish, if it does not look like the one in the DBSTalk logo, very wide with a wide LNB assembly (the doohickey sticking out) then it will probably have to be replaced as well.

The H20, H21, H22, HR20, HR21, HR22 or R22 are the only mpeg4 boxes
Add the H23 to the list.
