A few times I have switch between watching live TV and a recording (typically during a sporting event - not that it matters). The problem I have is that when I leave the recording (both using Exit and Stop) and later play that recording it always starts again at the beginning - unlike the Tivo which would always resume from the current location.

So is there some special way to exit a recording back to live TV so that when I go back to the recording it starts where I left off? Or is this just another one of those glitches / features that I just have to deal with?

Mine too, I found it quite distracting at first, then realized what a good idea it was.

Since we are all testing this box, I set up a lot of recordings and then the next day I go through them to see if the HR20 worked right. So, I have "exited" quite a few different programs at different places ...when I go back to them, I'm always where I left. When it's time to actually "watch" them, I use the press and hold short rewind button to get to the beginning, and that has worked fine as well.

You can exit via any method:

Exit, Back, Stop, Start Another PlayBack, Change the Channel...

i had a similar issue last night. was watching the Mets game live and Lost was about to record. Did a one touch record on the Mets game just for good measure and opened it up by going to List. I paused it from within the actual recorded program and then switched to my recording of Lost (about 10 minutes in). When Lost ended and I tried resuming the game it was at the current time.

Also, how come if I catch up to real time while watching something recorded it doesn't just continue to play off the live TV buffer? That would be a good feature methinks.

I was watching the Auburn Florida game last weekend which I had set to record. I started watching it about 1.5 hours into the recording. I also was recording the michigan-Penn State game on my Dtivo (since this game was not in HD). I was switching back and forth between the games. At first, I was hitting stop when I left the Auburn game to watch the other. When I returrned to that game, the recording was always back at the beginning. After it doing this twice, I just started pausing the Auburn game instead of stop so I would not get sent back to the start.

Also I lost the 15 minute tick marks after about 1.5 hours, No tick marks for the last 1:40 hours. I had set it up to record an extra 1.5 hours so I would not miss the end if it went into over time. It should of recorded for 4.5 hours, but I only got 3:10 recorded. Luckily the game was over at 3:05.

On other recordings prior to this past weekend, I have hit stop and have started up where I left off when I returned. I have not tried it since this game so I dont know if this is maybe a problem that was introduced with one of the recent software upgrades.

I had the same problem as others with a movie recently recorded from Showtime HD. I left it via the Exit button once, and the Stop button another time - both times it restarted the movie from the beginning when I resumed viewing.

I tried all of the methods with a recording (Lost - MPEG4) and every time no matter how I exit the recording it always resumed play from the beginning. Perhaps there was something screwed up with the recording. I have some programs being recorded this evening and will test again but every time I have exited a recording it always starts playing again from the beginning - no matter the method used. :(

Hmmm..........all works for me EXCEPT if I hit EXIT or STOP....then it sets back to beginning. If I hit any others and go back is starts where I left off.

Strange.

In my opinion exit and stop should reset it back to the beginning while any other method should save where you are. My kids have shows recorded that are 30 minutes long yet they are basically two 15 min shows. A lot of times they watch the first 15 and I would like the option to leave it there or to hit stop so when I open it again it is back at the beginning.

We've been having the same problem with the exit and stop not working to resume where we left off. This problem didn't start until the latest software release, so I'm assuming its related.

Possibly. As when I got mine the latest software was already available and downloaded first thing I don't have anything to compare it to - but as others had indicated it should work - it does not - so it looks like another issue or possibly change added to the latest software release.
