How does the process of channel surfing to your OTA channels work?

Hello, and sorry if this is a dumb question, but Im thinking about switching from cable to D* and we have no locals offered in my area. So Im hoping to get the distant locals for everything but my NBC and FOX which are run from the same station that I can get OTA. Im just wondering how difficult the process is to be channel surfing then want to watch some NBC OTA. Is it a lot of button presses and input changes? Wondering if someone could explain this process? Thanks

If you go hd and get a unit with OTA tuners or an HD DVR and an AM-21 external OTA tuner box (2 tuners) it is seamless....
with an OTA capable setup (hr20 or hr21/am21) it's in the guide right with the sat chanels..
Really??? thats awesome!! I was under the impression that I would have to switch inputs (like going from TV to DVD) to get to the OTA channels.
If you are "hoping" to get distant locals, make sure you can first. This requires waivers.
Is the recently announced HD DNS shutdown temporary, permanent or limited to certain customer profiles?

I believe when you go to favorites set-up and select your channels you will probably see, for instance, 2,2,2-1. First is HD, next, digital, then OTA. You also would need OTA selected as a source in your original sat. and antenna set-up. I believe thats right. Havn't done it in a while.
If you go with the non-HD boxes, things get a little more complicated. But with the HD boxes, they are incorporated into the "guide" and you really can't tell the difference. If you go with a DVR, the same applies. You can record OTA with the HD boxes and can't with the non-HD boxess.

Permanent for the customers it's limited to. Those being the ones who shouldn't have the channels anyway.
