Here in Chicago we're getting the Purdue game. I thought that I could get the Penn State game on ESPN, but it's being blacked out? I thought the mirroring thing was to allow fans in a local market get to see a different game that's not being carried in their region. Apparently I'm mistaken - but why even mirror it if it's being blacked out? BTW, I can get the VA Tech game on the ESPN alternate channel, but in SD. If I can get that game, which is being carried by ABC in other parts of the country, why no Penn State then?

Also, this is why I'm bummed they took away my distants, because I could be watching the Penn State game on ABCEHD. Oh well.

The reverse mirror is between Va Tech/Ga Tech and Purdue/Oregon. Penn State/Syracuse is on ESPN Gameplan.

You should get Va Tech/Ga Tech on channel 210.
I am - I just thought that since 206 has the Penn State game the mirror would allow me to receive that broadcast as well - but it is blacked out here.

I don't know why you think Penn State is the mirror on 206. The game on 206 is Oregon/Purdue. As I posted before. I am getting 206 and I can confirm it is Oregon/Purdue. Penn State is on Gameplan and you have to pay for it. SD only.

In Chattanooga, TN, we were supposed to get GT-VT, but Oregon-Purdue is being shown instead. ESPN is also showing Oregon-Purdue, and the alternate channel is blacked out.

The local ABC affiliate is blaming ABC for the switch. I wasn't able to speak to a live person at ABC, but I left a complaint via voice mail and e-mail. I also called DirecTV to see if they could do anything, but I'm not expecting much from them.

Somebody really screwed up big time. :new_cussi

ABC does reserve the right to choose which game they wanna broadcast just like the nfl blackouts a game if the stadium doesnt sell out its all their call

Understood. However, this situation appears to be a mistake, rather than a conscious decision on ABC's part.

The coverage map for the week stated that the GT-VT game would be shown here, and the guide also said that we would get that game. Furthermore, it stands to reason that the local affiliate would want that game shown, since GT is only two hours away from Chattanooga.

I've sent an e-mail to ABC Sports asking what happened. It would be nice to receive an explanation for the switch. If it was a mistake, I'd certainly accept their apology and move on. After all, it's just a football game. :)

Isn't this what the ESPN alternate channels are for ?

No.

Because the reverse mirror is not an ESPN game. It is coverage of one of the ABC regional games outside the region. All other ABC regional games out of region are on Gameplan, which is a purchase package. If the Big Ten did not require in their contract that one game be reverse mirrored, then it, too, would be Gameplan only.
