I occasionally find myself wanting to start recording manually but I get a message asking me to cancel PIP or cancel recording even if there is no recording taking place and no PIP window is open. I figured even if PIP is not visible but tuned to a different channel than the main picture, it keeps the receiver busy hence the problem. It still doesn't make sense though. My understanding was that I could record two channels and watch another one at the same time. The main channel I'm watching is one which I want to record, PIP is two and there should be another one still available.

So far (two weeks) it seems all well considering the experiences of others but there are way too many things very poorly designed especially the user interface. Browsing on the menu, guide and PVR functions definitely must be in the "needs improvement" list for the software engineers at DISH.

This is what you can do: There are TWO tuners. You can watch TV on one tuner and record something else entirely at the same time on the other tuner. OR, you can record two things at the same time on the two tuners AND watch something off the hard drive that you've already recorded. Those are your options.

Sounds like a poorly worded error message.

By most accounts the tuner-jugling on the 721 seems to be it's weakest point from at least the user interface perspective.
