I hope this is an easy one but I haven't found an answer....

I have an OTA antenna run into my house and several DTV HD units.

In the Family room the HR21/AM21 combo and in the master bedroom the HR10-250

I have two cable runs to each location. The question is, how can I run the OTA and two Dtv runs over two cables? I hear a lot about SWM but not sure if that is available or if it'll work. I think i've read it won't work with the HR10-25, which I could live with. I really just need it in the family room for those times that DTV is unavailable.... rain/snow/etc..

Thanks!

The SWM will allow you to run a total of 8 tuners. One line comes out of the SWM, which can be split with high-frequency cable splitters to get cable to the rooms you need it in. Only one cable needs to be connected to a dual-tuner receiver; it will get the signal for both tuners over the one cable.

The only issue is that, yes, it will NOT work with your HR10-250 (which you should really consider taking DirecTV's offer of a free upgrade for, since it will lose all satellite HD very soon). It only works with HR2x, H2x, R16, R22, and D12 receivers, and anything newer.

With the SWM, you could use the second coax for OTA, and get better signal than using diplexers.

You could use an SWM. It is available from Solidsignal or weaknees. Also someone here on the forum can get them. They are expensive and you'd still want to use your existing multiswitch / get a cheap multiswitch for the H10-25. As long as you diplex only the HR10 after the multiswitch, you should get them in both places. IE diplex OTA to bedroom on one of the cables run in there. in the living room use one cable for SWM (2 tuners on one cable) and use the other cable for OTA to the AM21. Peace out.

Make Sense?

best way: SWM on one line and OTA on the other..
unsuported way: run hr21>diplexer>cable>diplexer>BBC>dish.. note location of BBC.. must still be in same direction also.. this is a YMMV setup..

ok thanks guys. I'll call local installer that does great work and have them do it for me. (i'm all thumbs).

I still keep the HDTIVO in the master bedroom since the wife won't let me put a new HD TV in there because "this tv works fine and a new widescreen won't fit in the cabinet".... if she didn't let me have a 61inch in the family room and a front projection in the basement I'd fight her over it.

oh.... and she loves the tivo and doesn't "get" the HR21.... so she doesn't want to give up the tivo on the bedroom. she tapes her shows in there and doesn't care that it's not in HD. This is the same person that didn't want the Tivo in the first place.... until she taped her first oprah. :nono2:
