How to get VIP 722 to continue live playing after morning update?

I would like it to do this without operator intervention. I do not see any menu option which would make it happen. Is there a timer function which would effectively do it? I want the same channel(s) every morning. I have the same problem with the VIP 211, but it looks like the no guide update will make that work, sort of.

Set an "auto-tune" timer to turn on the receiver and set it to the desired channel at the time you want.
Yep.. I do what ChuckA does to avoid my son getting up in the morning and finding it on something that is not kid friendly.
Thanks. I was hoping there was something I was missing. Setting the timer will not be a big deal. It is quite disturbing that they don't design a receiver which has the primary purpose of receiving instead of one which turns itself off or just sits there asking questions. :)
It's never really off unless you pull the power cord. It just goes into standby mode until a timer fires or someone manually wakes it up to do something. You can set it to do as much receiving as you want.

I know it is never off.
As far as the set it, there is no way to set it to continue doing what it was doing.
What was it doing that you can't set it back to doing? If a recording is in progress the nightly boot will not interrupt it. If you are watching a program at that time it will ask if you want to bypass the update and if you are there to respond it can be bypassed. Otherwise you can set an autotune timer to put it back the way you want it, after the update.
Also worth noting that you might want to set some "buffer" time between your nightly update and when your auto-tune is to happen. I should probably test it out to see what happens...

I know, for example, if I set a recording for 6:30am, and my nightly update is for 6am... sometimes the update takes longer than others and my 6:30 timer starts later than it is supposed to.

I haven't tried an auto-tune close to the nightly update to see if it just kicks in whenever the update finishes OR if it gets skipped if the update goes past the auto-tune time. I'd have to schedule for a time I'd be up late to know and watch it happen to be sure.
Well, the update at 4 am with timer at 4:30 am did not work, but update at 3 am with timer at 4 am seems to be working.
Thanks.
