How to install HR20; multiplexer, OTA antenna?

Hello

I am getting an HR20, and I will install it myself, but have some questions. My setup in this section currently consists of a dual LNB, no OTA antenna, a Spaun SMS 3803 NFI multiplexer (2 in, 8 out), and 6 DirecTV receivers, 2 being TiVo units.

Would it be better for me to keep this old system isolated from the HR20 and HD dish? That seems like it would simplify things. Does the HD dish usually work in the same place an old dual LNB dish works? What multiplexer is recommended for HD?

Thanks

Also, I am north of Atlanta, about 20-25 miles from the ATSC OTA transmitting bases, and what OTA antenna can get the best signal power? I prefer interior installation if it is viable, but will exterior mount if needed, since I have to mount the new HD dish anyhow.

Thanks
Well first off, welcome to the forum! :welcome_s

As far as OTA goes, you will not be able to diplex OTA with the sat signal for the HR20, so don't even think about that solution. You will need to run a separate line for your OTA to the HR20, or you could split the OTA, one dedicated line for the HR20, and the other line could be diplexed for your older receivers.www.antennaweb.org will have more information on the best type of antenna you will need for your area. I use the antennas direct DB8 here at my home, and it works great.

The only multiswitch that will work with the HR20 is the Zinwell WB68 6x8 multiswitch, at least as far as I know. Anyone feel free to correct me if I'm wrong. There is nothing wrong keeping your older receivers hooked up the way they are now if that system is working the way you want it to. They cannot access or use the new satellites the HR20 can access with a 5 LNB dish anyway.

Hope this helps a little. Good luck with your installation.
