I have a local news program that I recorded on my HD DVR. Is there a way that I can save that to an external hard drive?? Its important because I was on the news for my company!!

With the Hauppauge HDPVR do you record to a regular DVD or must it be Blu-Ray.

They can be burned as AVC-HD discs, playable in hi res on capable Blu-ray players, but archived on DVD recording media. The HDPVR also lets you archive in DD5.1 audio.

What bidger said, or you can just save the file on a hard drive, or convert it with the included program, to various mobile phone formats. The recorder itself just uses a USB2 connection on a laptop or desktop, and save the file to the computer.

FWIW, it also comes with DVR software and an IR blaster.

im not familiar with any of what everyone has sugggested. What is the best and easiest way to archive my dvred programs to an external hard drive?? I would like to preserve the crystal clear HD quality

Did you try R5000-HD what actually archiving original stream without any conversion ?
