How to switch between tuners? HR21

1502 Views 14 Replies 5 Participants Last post by  MX727
I have an HR21 and just had the system installed today and told the installer I didn't need the 20 minute instruction on how to see the guide/etc. I haven't tried setting up favorite channels yet, but it doesn't seem too difficult. One thing I haven't figured out though is how do I switch between tuner 1 and 2? I don't always want to record/delete shows so with my cable box I'd just pause on tuner 1 and go to tuner 2 during a commercial and do the same on the other and keep switching back and forth. I can't seem to figure out which tuner I'm on though with this receiver. I know both are hooked up because I checked the signal strength and was able to record one program and still watch/stop another.

"You can't".
What you're "thinking of" is called double live buffer, and these receivers don't have it.

You cannot switch between tuners, unlike the old Tivo's.
guess I'll just be doing a lot of recording/deleting to do this then, thanks for the replies

FWIW: pressing the dash twice deletes recordings from the play list, and you can switch between one recording and the [single] live buffer with the prev button.

awesome, thanks. I considered asking about the single buffer when watching something being recorded but didn't. Now I know. Is that the only function of the dash button? I wasn't sure what that or the active button did. The active jsut takes me to a screen I didn't understand. I've figured out the blue and yellow buttons but so far the green and red ones do nothing (favorite channels maybe?)
Am I doing something wrong or is there very little ondemand programming and non in hd?
The VOD will only function if you have the HR connected to the internet. If, and when, you have it connected it will take up to 24 hours for the guide to fully populate. The color buttons are "soft" buttons in that their function varies from screen to screen, the right lower portion of the screen will indicate what each button does for that screen.

gotcha, so I just don't have the full list yet. Thanks.

You should have a good number of them an a couple of hours actually.
Ok, I understand about the 24 hour thing with PPV and that apparently some don't have the time limit. If I push to record a PPV movie am I charged when it records or the first time I open it? I'm asking in case I hit to record a movie and then decide I didn't want it so wondering when/how the charging works. I'm guessing I'm charged when I press to record it though. Are non-movies such as UFC events given the 24 hour restriction?
I never used PPV, but I have seen the message screen that tells me the cost and has the button to accept the charges, which has been where I cancel.

You can record as many as you like, you are not billed until you begin to watch it. The 24 hour clock starts only when you agree to be charged and start viewing.
In the program guide grid, the red and green buttons take you forward and backwards 12hrs.

In the recorded shows list, the red button initiates a DELETE of the highlighted show.

Active button takes quite awhile to load, but when loaded, gives you a mini "web page" with weather for your zip and several others you select, and advertising, etc.
