I'm thinking of switching from DirecTV (HR10-250) to Dish and the ViP622. Getting tired of DTV's limited HDTV lineup.

I like the idea of being able to watch my HD shows on my HD set, and having the wife watch her SD shows on the small TV in the spare room. (How successful I'll be in getting the wife to give me back my big screen remains to be seen). I was just wondering what people's experience was with this feature and how they had it wired. I've got a coax cable already run to the second TV and was wondering if that would work.

Any feedback and ideas welcome! Thanks.

IMO - The 622 works perfectly with 2 TVs. Both TVs can view the same recordings. Your SD TV will also be able to watch HD recordings at lower resolution of course. Coax is fine for the SD connection.

Undoubtedly, it works as well as if your second TV had its own DVR tuner. The menus are completely separate, so once set how you like them, (favorites, settings, etc.), they remain set for each TV.

IOWs 3 tuners total 2 satellite and one OTA (HD only) that can record HD to one Hard drive. In dual mode it can feed two different programs to two different TV sets, 1 HD and one SD via Coax. UHF remote for second TV set so it can control what it watches and the other remote is IR so it controls the TV viewing in the room with the 622. I like the 1 Hard drive for both TVs so the content only needs to be recorded once to beb available for both TVs. Others may prefer seperate drives.

I didn't know what I was going to make of it until the 622 arrived.
It works GREAT with 2 TVs, which both have the ability to record and watch shows.
It's a great piece of equipment!

Not to pick nits, but several times you have written the OTA is HD only. Actually it is digital only. You may receive SD or HD programming on a digital channel. Hopefully most of the programming is HD but some may not be.

Sorry, I stand corrected digital does not equal HD. This I know from a local PBS station digital that has four feeds on one channel none of which look that spectacular and always seemed to be 4:3 AR. Not really nit picking of you. Hopefully readers understood digtal for where I typed HD.

I love this box, VIP622!
