Unless I'm misunderstanding this, once the HR24 moved the 61 minute show to a different slot because of the conflict, it was then left with two consecutive 60 minute recording slots it could fill, and two SLs were available to fill those spots. Sounds like it did exactly what it was supposed to do.shendley said:

Two weeks in a row my HR 24-100 has done something I'm having trouble understanding. I schedule The Walking Dead to record at 8 central Sunday night and later look to find the scheduler has replaced it with Masterpiece Theater. Masterpiece Theater has a much lower priority as a series than The Walking Dead. I noticed something tonight, though, that might explain it but I think my hypothesis attributes far too much intelligence to my little HR 24. But what do you think? I noticed that I had scheduled Treme to record at 9 (and, by the way, I have Sunday Night Football recording all evening) which I shouldn't have been able to do since The Walking Dead records from 8 -9:01. So I think there must have been an error in the guide data when I originally schedule to record it. It must have read 8 -9. So could the scheduler have noticed the conflict when the guide data was updated to 8 - 9:01, rescheduled The Walking Dead to record at another time (since it has a lower priority than Treme as a series), and then pushed Masterpiece Theater up to this earlier time slot because it fit in the 8 - 9 slot, consistent with recording Treme at 9? Is that kind of 'thinking' possible for an HR 24 scheduler?

You're understanding it accurately. So, the scheduler really is 'smart' enough to pull off such a stunt? That's actually pretty cool!

Last week there was an entire thread (The Walking Dead, Not Recording on Debut Sunday) regarding The Walking Dead and a guide data problem. Not sure if this had anything to do with your specific issue though...
I don't know what the frequency is, but I assume the scheduler checks the recording requests against the GUIDE data on a regular basis and is constantly adjusting based on any changes. If it didn't go back and fill those newly available slots with recordings, I'd be worried!shendley said:You're understanding it accurately. In the light of this discussion, I can see how this functionality makes perfect sense. Not sure why I thought it was attributing too much 'intelligence' to my machine to be able to do this.
By the way, going forward, it appears the guide data is correct for The Walking Dead next week. It shows 8-9:01.

Yes, the DVRs are smart. Unfortunately the people running the channels are dumb, because on a lot of over the air network shows, they'd have completely missed a viewer because of that stunt of running one min late. Luckily cable networks repeat their stuff a lot.
