Thanks for info
If you have to ask, you'd better have DirecTV do it, whatever it might cost.
I'm sure you can find
numerous posts from the earlier days of SWiM, but the short answer is, from the ground block the 4 coaxes go to, you need to run 4 coaxes to a
SWiM-8 multiswitch (which requires a
power inserter). From there, you run some RG-6 to a
SWiM splitter (the green label variety), then you attach one of the two coaxes that previously ran to your DVRs to connect to the leftmost coax connector on the DVR (remove any BBCs). The other one is no longer used. Reboot the DVRs and they will be on SWiM. Note that if you are
adding an HR34 and keeping the 2 existing DVRs, you will need a
SWiM-16 multiswitch and two
SWiM splitters,
since you will have more than 8 active tuners.
Now, there's DECA. If your existing HD DVR's aren't HR24's, you need a
DECA adapter between the coax and the DVR, which will also connect to the DVR's Ethernet RJ-45 jack. If the new HR34 isn't near your router, you need an
Internet connection kit (either wired or wireless) that bridges the DVR's DECA network to your home Ethernet network.
It (kind of) made sense to DIY in the early days, before installers figured all this out. But now, they can probably do it right, and whatever the charge is, it will probably be less than buying all the hardware from Solid Signal.
