I know it will not be the best setup but will these two units be able to work together?I got a decent deal on a hr34 to replace my hr 20 700 so should I keep the hr 20 700 but is slower than all get out or just keep the h21 100 which works fine in another bedroom.

You can keep either DVR and you can run WHDVR with your HR34. Which of the HR's you keep is up to you. The HR20 has the OTA feature, so if that is important, keep it. If current performance is more important, keep the HR21. Hopefully they will fix the speed issue on the next release.

And unless there is something wrong with your HR20, it is almost universally reported as faster than all dvrs except for the HR24 and 34...you may have a failing HR20...

I think that was true, until the last HD GUI release. The HR20's seem to be hit the hardest when using the HD GUI, according to Rich who has like 8 of them and by other subscribers with HR20's. For example:

Have you flushed the Guide? That usually helps me when mine slow down. I gotta admit I'm getting tired of this creeping slowness too. I "woke up" a couple of 20-700s that I only use as servers the other day and I couldn't believe how slow they were. I just did what I had to do and put them back in "Server Heaven" where the slowness isn't apparent.

Gotta have patience, the next couple NRs ought to address these issues.

I have an HR20 as well...runs like a champ...in fact since I don't have an HR24's yet, it IS my fastest dvr.

Unless his post is wrong he said H21, as in an HD receiver, not HR21 HD-DVR. As far as I know the H21 HD receiver is faster than any of the HR2x HD-DVRs. So to me the real question would be does he ever see himself needing to record more than 5 shows at the same time? If not I would probably keep the H21.
