I'd go for it at the extra $99. The monthly charge will be the same plus you gain 3 more tuners a 1TB drive and the PIP capability. Plus then you're also being able to use a RVU client in the future if you want to.

I just signed up today and ordered the HR34. I only have two TVs in my home, but the selling point was the extra HD space and I really like PIP during football season. Another factor was that if I changed my mind in a few weeks, it would cost $399 instead of $99.

Thought this was asking a slightly different question.

In terms of the feature set for the HR34 for sure it's the one to have especially at just $99.

My questions and concerns are about the evolution of the software and some of the issues that are yet to be resolved, at least so it seems reading the sticky.

I've been thinking it's one or two updates away from meeting the same level of stability as the HR2X.

Yes, I would agree that it's one or two updates away from the same stability at the HR2X's.

As for evolution, I would think that the HR34 is the focus right now and that once it catches up to the HR2X's it might eventually surpass them.

Agreed, and definitely worth the $99. I find it worth the $299 I paid.

I love the box itself but there are little things that are very annoying. For instance, if I download something on VOD, alot of times it will skip minutes at a time during the playback. Also I really hate on the DirecTV app that I can add a buffer to any recording I schedule from my iPhone except for the HR34. I find it retarded that this box that has so much storage and has multiple tuners is the only HD DVR that will not let you add additional time to the recording. Talk about inconvienant for remote scheduling sports programming. Other then that I am pretty happy with it for now and I have had mine since Feb.

1 or 2, we can only hope. I am thinking more like a 1/2 dozen or so.

Not necessarily, because that 1/2 dozen or so have already been tried and tested on the rest of the HR fleet, much less development time is necessary. Just a few more cycles and the HR34 should be on par with the HR2x series and literally indistinguishable in functionality.
