I have a HR10-250 that I bought secondhand. When I turned it on, I got the Welcome screen, then the "just a few minutes more" screen, then the screen went black with no message or anything. What could be the problem?

After the screen goes black try pressing the DirecTV button.If that fails replace the hard drive.If that fails it could be a motherboard issue.

After it goes black, cycle through the resolutions via the "format" button on the front.

How is it hooked to the TV/Monitor?

Only 480i is output through the Svideo/RCA outputs, and only when 480i is selected with the format button.
