HR20-100 keeps forgetting to resume

This is happening all the time during the Olympics and it's driving me crazy.

My HR20-100 gets into this mode where it won't remember where I stopped watching on a program that is currently being recorded.

That is, it has been recording today's Olympics coverage since 10A today. If I go to the recording (still in progress), and watch the first hour, then stop, possibly turn off my PVR (sometimes, sometimes not), then go watch something else (another recording or live TV), then go back to the Olympics, it says "resume" when I select the recording, but when I select "resume" it starts at the start instead of resuming. It's maddening since each time I come back I have to fast forward a lot to get back to where I was. Given that each recording grows to 8 hours, that's a lot of fast forwarding.

Rebooting seems to fix it, for a while, but I can't do this during the day because I'll miss part of my recordings.

I am using an external 750GB eSATA drive.

This has also been happening to me with my HR20-700. I don't have an external drive. This just started happening within the past few days, and I was wondering if anyone else was having the same problem.
Just to check, are you sure you're watching from the recording each time (from list) and not from live?
There's a bug in the software that shows up when you catch up to live TV while watching a program that's in the process of recording. If you exit a few seconds before the live point, it works fine, but if you've caught up to live TV it comes back in earlier in the recording. I suspect it's a checkpoint of some sort that's not being taken if you exit. I had experienced it several times, and now will back up a bit before exiting. That takes care of the problem. It'd be nice if they fixed the bug, but at least there's a workaround.

That is exactly what I was doing while watching the recording (catching up to live TV). Then I was clicking away at a commercial to the live tuner. I am surprised I haven't run into this bug before, b/c I always do this, basically utilizing the DLB workaround. Is this bug new to the latest software release? In any case, thanks for the info, I will use the workaround that you suggested.

Have you reported these specifics in the issues threads?
