HR20-100 OTA Issue

541 Views 7 Replies 3 Participants Last post by  herrjj1
I am having an issue with the built in OTA tuner that has been happening over the last month. There are two local HD channels that will not come in on a consistent basis. When I look at the signal meters for these channels I see Tuner 1 fluctuating from the 90's to Not Available but when i look at Tuner 2 it is consistent around 90%.

I have reset the receiver and that didn't solve the problem. Any ideas what might be causing this? Thanks

It might be problems with multipath, or with tuner overload. Which stations, what antenna do you have and what is your zip code?
Zip Code: 50325, Stations are 8-1 and 13-1. I am not for sure the type of antenna as it was here when I moved into our house, but I know it is located in the attic and is rather large - sorry.
Surf to tvfool.com.

Make sure your antenna is pointed in the right direction.

If you have a long cable run from the antenna to your IRD, or it is split, you may want to add a pre-amp.

If you are very close, you may need an attenuator, to reduce a signal overload.
Looking at tvfool, the two stations have the strongest signals in your location. Are you using any sort of amplifier on the signals from the antenna, if so that will just compound the problem.
Signals swinging from high to zero is nearly always a multipath issue, and this will be made worse by an attic mounted antenna. One thing you could try is moving the antenna so it points 10-15 degrees away from the direction of the two stations, you might find this solves the problem.
Or/and as Kansas Zephyr suggests, get an attenuator and use that to reduce the signal strength.
I moved the antenna and that seems to solve some of the issues right now. But after I did that I checked the signal meter and now it is showing N/A on Tuner 1 and will show a signal very sporadically but on Tuner 2 it is holding a steady signal around 90%.

Do I need to worry about Tuner 1 not showing a steady signal when Tuner 2 is? Thanks

Check again.

Sometimes that will clear up if you change the channel being displayed, and then return.

Are the station(s) being received well, now?
The stations seems to be coming in now but the Off Air Tuner 1 is still showing Not Acquired. I don't know if this matters sense the channels are coming in.
