We had a storm here in the Chicagoland area a few days ago. However, even after the storm cleared up, the receiver is still acting like there's bad weather (but we see sunny, cloudless skys)...with audio drop outs, screen pixelation, sometimes the whole screen goes to gray pixels.

Maybe the dish was damaged (looks OK, but what do I know), or maybe it's just been knocked out of proper alignment...or maybe there's sun spots.

I have tried an RBR, but it's made no impact.

I'm just checking in with the forum, before I call DTV for support, and possibly get a tech sent out to realign the dish (I have onsite coverage, or whatever they call it).

I'm confident that this probably isn't related to my having the latest CE for this unit (0x254 from Friday 7/11), but as I'm using a CE, I'm checking w/the forum first.

Thanks.

Before you go down the Dish re-alignment route...

Try doing a receiver/DVR reset via the menu, and give the unit a bit of time to refresh the guide...then check things again.

Perhaps the weather disrupted the signal levels enough to mess things up a bit.

If that doesn't work, there are other things that can be checked as well - we could start with comparing the tuner levels - are they the same...etc.

But first try the reset.

Your signals could be better but they are high enough you should not be having audio and video break ups because of them.

Where would you want me to repost this?

Seems like I should just call to get a technican out...

I'm now also seeing "Searching for signal on Satellite In 2...(771)"... Would that have anything to do with the external HD going bad (which is what you're implying)?

Seems clear it's a signal issue, but I'm not an authority on this sort of stuff.

Called DTV yesterday.
Technical was here late morning today.
He believes the surge protector that one cable was going through was the cause of the problem. We replaced the cable, and bypassed the surge protector.

As the problem was intermittent, I'll just have to wait and see if things are all cleared up now.

I'm very pleased about the quick response from DTV, and the technican was knowledgable and polite.

Here's hoping the problem is fixed.

I guess it was the surge protector? There are some that are rated for Ka frequencies, but not many.....

That's good to hear.

Unfortunately, the problem reoccured earlier this evening...so it doesn't appear to have had any connection (no pun intended) to the surge protector. I'll have to call again and reschedule...though I don't know what they'd do this time other than fiddle with the dish a bit.

Chris, I am having a similar problem (I live in a suburb of Chicago) on my HR20-100. 771 message on some channels, just started a week or so ago. Without going through a long explanation of signal strengths, one thing I find odd is that when I disconnect any cable from the dish anywhere to the box, or anywhere in between and then reconnect, the problem goes away for a few hours. But eventually it comes back. Anyone ever heard of this? Thanks.

A more knowledgable technician came out this morning.

He was of the same mind as the previous technician though, and replaced all connectors (from the wall plate to the wiring closests up to the roof installation) to support the higher bandwidth requirements of the HD signal.

Unfortunately, just after he'd left the building...the problem reoccured. My wife manged to catch him before he drove off.

So he came back and replaced the whole unit. We now have a black HR21-100.

As the problem was intermittent, we'll keep an eye out...but hopfully, changing the unit did the trick.

Dissapointingly, he didn't setup the external drive correctly with the new unit (I was out of the room on a conference call), and it took a while to realize that it wasn't using the it. But, now we're going to take the opportunity, and upgrade to a 1TB Cavalry...as we've already lost all the settings and programming on the Seagate.

bmacaluso, you'll probably have to go through the same steps I did...of calling and having a technician come out...whether you can get them to replace the unit straight off is another thing entirely. Today's technician had definately seen this kind of problem before...but clearly felt that it can sometimes be resolved by confirming the wiring and connectors are the right kinds (which they apparently weren't for me), with a unit change coming a close second. No idea what they'll suggest if the problem resurfaces.
