HR20-700 blue light ring - 3 lights?

There's another recent thread about an HR-20 showing one light on the blue ring, but mine's been rebooting and showing 3 lights: at 2, 6 & 10 o'clock positions on the ring... then going into an extended receiver self-check lasting a good 8 - 10 minutes.

I'm wondering if it's 'just' the external drive going bad (a WD 10EADS - if I recall correctly - in an Antec MX-1) or the actual HR20 finally starting to give up the ghost.

My first thought is that it's the drive, as a few weeks ago, it went through a 12 hour 'repair', finding and fixing 44 errors.

Any thoughts, o wise ones? :gott:

Simple answer, as a test unplug the external and see what happens with the internal for a couple of days. Not forgetting you will need to setup new timers and such.

However if it works OK on the internal you do have your answer. Actually if it still acts up, then Bye bye HR-20 IMO of course.

Good Luck
Thanks... I was planning on a more step-wise approach: popping the WD drive into a TT Blacx which I'm picking up this afternoon (new, remarkably well-stocked computer store just opened down the road!) to see if it's the enclosure's controller rather than the drive itself. If that didn't help, then I'd try running on the internal.

It'd be a blast to see what's still on the internal drive after all these years, both recordings and old timers!
Going to the internal had one benefit, No cost at all. No driving to buy a new enclosure.

to me win win.
Ah, but there's a method to my madness: I have a backlog of stuff from this week to be watched over the weekend! ;) :D

Of course, it's not as if I actually need an excuse to visit a new computer store and not walk out empty-handed... :p

I had the same thing happen to me without the external drive, would fine and fix 50 errors it took 79 hours to complete. It worked a few days and then it would happen again. I called DirecTv and had it replaced last Sunday
