HR20-700 Changeover

Good Morning Everyone,
I am a :newbie: , although I have been reading the forums for quite a while. My question involves my transition from the HR10 (I currently have) to the HR20 (I have avoided, because I wanted to wait until the big bugs were worked out). Anyways, now that my HR10 is rebooting every morning (I am running 6.3a) I have finally convinced my wife that its time to switch over to the other box. When I called D* on Friday they immediately offered the box for $99 dollars, I told her I would think about it and asked her to make a note in my file that the offer had been made to me. My question is this, now that Dish is giving their HD DVR for free do you think that it is possible that D* will start when their inventory levels come up? I hate bargaining with people especially over the phone, so if the $99 is the best I can get thats fine but I can live with the HR10 for a while as well. Sorry for the rambling post and thanks in advance for any replies. I should note that I recently moved and I already have the 5 LNB dish installed, and thanks to the misinformed CSR who told me that my HR10 would pick up local HD we went back to D* from cable.

Two things...

1) Dish also announced yesterday that they are going to introduce a NEW HD-DVR model... So, IMHO... they are just now going to give away the OLD one.

2) I don't expect DirecTV to really go much lower on the HR20... at least not for a while. $99 is pretty much the standard offering.

As for the issues.... let's see how the latest release helps things

Oh... and welcome to the forums
i bought mine for 299 at best buy, and although they helped with credits, $99 really is a bargain for the machine IMHO. My wife can spend ht on lunch :)

Not to stir the pot, there was a time when you could call customer retention and "upgrade" your HR10 for free. I know I banged on them for a while & got mine for free [I had no HR10]. This may no longer happen. I don't know, but since it is a lease [& not owned] it doesn't make any sense [to me] to pay more than the lease payment for it.
If you are considering E* vs. D*, remember that it appears that D* will have considerably more HD offerings in the 6-9 month timeframe. I would at least consider that if E* would want any time committment from you longer then one year.

D* has noticed the dedicated thread and other posts about pushing, pushing, pushing to get a deal on the HR20. They've definitely become more resistant and clearly there is a demand for the product, so good luck. Personally I think $99 is great and would be happy to have paid it. Since I've had minimal problems, I'm living with my $299 box but not happy that the price has been undercut so quickly.
Hi everyone , this is my first post. I called and D: gave me a HR 20 for free. I have been with Dave from 1995. I also have the top package with four units. I have never gotten anything from them before and listed as an "A" list person. I was transfered to someone that could help me with my request. I told her what I wanted and she said she would be glad to give me the unit free. She also told me that with the packaged I have no monthly fee would be added. I have tivo and plan to keep it. Hope I will like the HR 20. I love tivo but it is not HD. My only problem is they can not install till Feb. 2. They are giving me a 5 lnb dish. I ask if I could not install everything myself and was told no becuse of insurance problems. I am not going to complain abut this deal. I did call today and ask if they could ship me the DVR and use it with my 3 lnb dish till the installer came and put up my new dish. I was told they could not do that as the installer had to bring me the DVR. I do not understand this and hope someone can shed some light on this. This seems like a really great site and I am checking in daily.
