First off I want to say that I'm glad that I found this forum. :D I've been pulling my hair out this past week messing with my new HR20. I just upgraded my setup to a nice 40 inch 1080p Sony LCD and I wanted the DVR to go with it. I lucked out (or so I thought) and snagged one of the last two HR20's that were on the shelf at my local Circuit City. The salesman told me that they just came in the night before. But.......that's where my frustration started. My first frustration came over HD distant networks, but that's a whole 'nother box of monkeys. After that, I started to notice longer periods between channel changes. Slower menu movement in the guide. And to top it off, a total freeze up when you try to pause, rewind, or play (after a pause). I've had this box for a week and I'm probably about to wear out the reset button. I've even unplugged it for a while. At first I thought it was a heat related problem, but after reading this forum for a while, I'm not so sure anymore.

Bottom line guys...........is there anything that I can do to "fix" any of this? If not, is D* good about swapping these things out?

Personally, I prefer the TiVo interface much more. The HR20 menu/interface looks very elementary compared to the TiVo on my standard def DVR.

This is my setup:

40" Sony 1080p LCD
HR20-700
They are connected together via HDMI.

If a red-button reset doesn't fix your problems, you're probably a candidate for a full disk format. Search for forum here for instructions. For what it's worth, you shouldn't have to reset the thing that much, if at all. Except for software updates, we've had to do three resets in 8 weeks-plus. I think that's three too many, but it's not a daily or multiple-times-per-day thing either.

Have you tried any of the potential fixes others have tried here such as removing the b-band converters or switching from HDMI to component?

Welcome!

These first two may be happening to you...
HDMI
- Going to Component has solved problems for some.
Native Mode
- May cause a slow channel response for you.
Here are a few more easter eggs hidden for you!
Autorecord (Wishlists)
- Some feel Autorecords caused problems for them. --- Series Link - Good
Search
bad (broken, takes you to channels you don't get)
Channels I Get
- Doesn't work - Promised on p. 31.
Guide Button
Surprise! - it doesn't go to GUIDE as shown on p. iv!
LIST Button
Doesn't remember where you left off

Seriously, good luck with your HR20.

Thanks for the quick responses guys. I'm going to look through some of the items that have been listed above.

As for the software, it's on 0xFA. It looks to have updated to that version as soon as I activated it last Sunday evening because it's different than the 'Original version', and the time stamp is the same time that I activated it.

Thanks again.

Sounds just like the problems I had when I first got my HR20. Lived with it about a week and then did a full reset with Format. Seems to have cleared up my problems. The channels change much faster in the guide now and everything is much more stable. I think the install should include a full reset with Format when you first get the HR20.
