Wife records Hot in Cleveland. The last 2 recorded episodes have audio but no video in normal playback mode. If you press skip (30 sec. skip) the video will flash and you can see it.

This has now occurred on other recorded programs on other channels. Noticed it doing it last night on a show that was being recorded. The DVR had tuned to the channel so when I turned the tv on, there wasn't any video. audio was fine. When to list and started the program over. No video except for when i pressed skip. I stopped the recording and went to guide. Several channels that I normally get were blank. This was channels around the TravelHD channel (270's ? maybe).

I did a reset on the DVR and the channels came back. I have a lot of programs recorded so I don't want to lose them by getting another DVR. Is this a DVR problem or DirecTV problem?

BTW, this DVR is the most viewed from but I have another HR20-700 with many recorded shows that appears not to have this problem.

HR 20's are the first generation of directv's dvr's so it may be getting a little long in the tooth as they say. If a reset solved the problem thats fine but if you find that it needs one repeatedly its time to call directv. We had a 20-700 and it's went down the road when we added a 3D display. I could have switch dvr's around but was hoping to get a 24 but ended up with a 23.

Is Live TV always good, just recordings bad?
If so, could be the hard drive starting to die.

If occurs on live or recorded shows.
How is the HR connected to the TV? If HDMI, did you try another cable?

If that doesn't solve it, can you try component cables?

Had an HR once with a very intermittant HDMI port. Finally sent it back.

Just recordings where the video isn't really on the channel at the time. 4 TV shows total over the last 6 weeks as of now out of probably 30 recordings per week.

Connected by HDMI. All other shows record and play fine.

How full is the HD?
Have you flushed the Guide- by doing two menu resets within 30 minutes.....?
80% free on 2T drive.

I have not tried that. I did a single reset last night and got the missing channels back. I'm doing the double reset now.
