just hooked up a piece of crap refurbished hr20-700 to replace my less than a year old hr20-100. the refurbished unit all cracked on the front, and doesnt get the ota signals as good as the 100. my 100 had a problem with getting tuner two to work, where the cable screws in on the back , it would just turn. now just 5 hrs in the temp of the 700 is 130 degrees which i thought was high since both of my 100's would get no higher than 109 degrees. do i have a problem alreadys?

HR20-700s do run hotter than HR20-100s. The max temperature should be 127-129 though. However, they will function at higher temps and will reboot themselves if they get too hot, to avoid heat failure.

Is this in an enclosed cabinet?

130 out in the open isn't typical. My HR20-700 ran 126 in an enclosed cabinet with some heat venting.

If it's physically damaged and cracked in front, that's not a good job of a refurb. I'd let Directv know. While some nicks and scratches are OK, they usually do better than major cracks.

The only downside is that next time you may get an HR21 and it doesn't have OTA. As you use OTA, if you get an HR21, you then have to call back and request the AM21 receiver. There's a block in the system that if there isn't an activated HR21 in your account, they won't provide the AM21. So first you have to activate the HR21 so they can order the AM21.

Having been through this with CSR's, you need some patience but eventually it does work out.
