I know there's been a lot of threads posted about connecting the HR20 for music and pictures, but I thought I'd post this in the hopes for others with the LinkSys WGA54G that are also having problems.

I'm using WEP64 security. I got the WGA54G and immediately updated the firmware to v1.10. I set it up for Adhoc Infrastructure and DHCP usage. My HR20's firmware is 0x10B. After the setup and a couple RBRs, my HR20 still isn't seeing anything. Here's what my HR20 is displaying:

A problem was detected

IP Address: ................... OK
Subnet Mask: ................ OK
Default Gateway: .......... OK
DNS: .............................. OK
Network: Connected
Internet: Not Connected.

If actual IP address numbers are needed, I can give those. So the HR20 is connecting to the Network, but not the Internet. I have a Dell Windows XP Media Center Edition PC w/SP2. My DSL modem/router is a 2wire unit with 802.11b. I also have WMP11, and set it up for sharing.

I don't know how else to proceed in attempting to get this connected. I'm almost ready, just to return the LinkSys wireless ethernet bridge, and just go with a dedicated Media Server, such as the D-Link DSM 520 or the like. I'd really prefer not to spend the extra bucks for that, as I only want this feature for display pictures on my widescreen HDTV - lots easier than having family and friends hover around the small PC upstairs.

So is there any other ideas or suggestions from the knowledgeable folks here? Any help or other information would be greatly appreciated!

EDIT: I should add that WMP11 sees the HR20 as unknown device.

Does it recognize the HR20 with the security turned off? I have mine connected via CAT5 cable and have no problems with my WGA54G. Could be that the HR20 does not yet support wireless security protocols.

Set it for infrastructure, not Adhoc...

Click the Infrastructure radio button
if you want your wireless computers to network with computers on your wired network using a wireless
access point. Click the Ad-Hoc radio button if you want multiple wireless computers to network directly with
each other. Do not use the Ad-Hoc mode if you want to network your wireless computers with computers on
your wired network.

Is that the Lyinksys router or game adaptor? I accidentally got the router on advice from someone here and I had to return it, as it did the exact same thing. I looked closely, and that model did not have bridge capabilities. You need the Lynksys game adaptor not the router (if it is about the size of a paperback with two antennas, you have the wrong thing).

Also, be sure to make sure that the advanced network settings in the HR20 correctly set your gateway IP address. Also, check and see what primary DNS server your broadband connection uses and put that in the advanced setting for your HR20. When I used my gateway IP address as my DNS server for my HR20, it never was able to connect to the net. When I put my DSL router's DNS server numbers, for my ISP, voila, my HR20 connected. And yes, be sure to set it up for infrastructure. Hope this helped.

I think you meant to say that the new firmware version is 1.0.1. I have tried downloading the wga54ag_1.0.1.fim file several times from the help menu. It appears to download, just like my other Linksys products, and the config page comes back up. However on the setup screen the version still says 1.0. Has anyone else had this problem?

What's with yo-yo pricing of this unit at Best Buy? When I was there a couple weeks ago, it was $99.99, and the Geek Squad guy said it wouldn't work for the purposed I was describing. Evidently, online it was on sale recently for $49.99. This morning it's $89.99, "on sale" at least online.

The everyday price at a Best Buy store for the WGA54AG was DEFINITELY $49.99, which I paid a couple days ago. I know because they also had the WGA54G, which the regular price is $99.99 for some reason. I got them confused and was panicking over the unanticipated extra $50.

I wonder if there's much of a difference between those two. Even the WGA54AG is $71.99 at bestbuy.com right now and they say that's $8 off the regular price.?? You were lucky.

I just ordered the D-Link DWL-G820 as referenced in one of the other threads. I'm returning both of my Buffalo Ethernet Converters: 1 to newegg, 1 to buy.com. I hardwired one HR20 and I'll try the D-Link bridge for the other HR20 with the new D-Link router I expect to be installed tomorrow by Verizon FiOs.

I returned the LinkSys WGA54G to BB after trying many settings and suggestions offered here, and picked up a D-Link DSM 520 media server. I just needed something that I could show pictures with this holiday weekend.

I should also be receiving the Buffalo wireless ethernet bridge this week, and will give that a shot. If I can't get that going it's going back as well. I'll then be giving up on using the HR20 as a media server, and sticking with the D-Link media server solution. If the Buffalo solution turns out to work, the Media Server will be going to back to BB and the HR20 will have a reprieve.
