Semi repeat post about roof mounting.
Has anybody recently had one of these dishes installed by DTV installer/contractor on their roof? I ask because recently neighbor had Direcway installed, and said Hughes stipulated NO structure mounts.
Our 2LNB is on our garage and all the coax runs there in the attic, to the 2X4 switch. I really don't want them or me to run a bunch of new cable. I'd like to mount it in the same location. I can run the additional 2 cables 15' from the new dish to the newswitch.

Thanks,
Jim

Not really sure what you're asking. I had my AT9 installed on my roof just over 6 months ago. As long as your current dish location has good line of sight to all 5 satellites (99, 101, 103, 110, 119) then it should be fine. Both the AT9 and Slimline dishes use a thicker mast (2" outer diameter), so your current base and mast will not be sufficient; you'll need to use the ones that come with the new dish.

That's it, installer had no problems with it? Neighbor just said they would not install Direcway on his roof, by Hughes Network instructions.
Thks.

I actually wanted the installer to put in on the side of my house, but he insisted on the roof, so I just went with it.

Anyway thanks for all the response, I'll run the two new coax up tp dish location,
then he just has to install, aim, tune, COOL!
Thanks,
Jim.

Welcome to the forums, bacaruda! :welcome_s

Some installation companies refused to install the AT9 dish on anything other than a pole in concrete at first. After complaints to D*, the typically relented and actually followed the instructions that say it can be installed anywhere you have solid beams or joists to anchor to.

Cheers,
Tom

The installer I had said the new dish cannot mount where my current (3 LNB) dish is; said the dish would come right off in high winds. It kind of confused me, because I have seen the same dish mounted on roofs around the neighborhood and my current dish is lag bolted to the frame.

It doesn't really matter because HD Locals are not yet available in my area, hence my anxiousness for OTA.
